Thoughts?

QuoteBarring any last-minute snags, the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to sign free-agent quarterback Nick Foles to a multiyear contract when the new league year opens next week, according to sources.

Fine by me but we need to draft someone too.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Good news for Jag nation. Now that I am back in Florida I would love to be here for a repeat of the 2017 season

Foles would be a definite upgrade over Bortles or Kessler and should make the team more competitive in the next year or two. But it is still just a short term fix. And they better load up on offense in the draft and free agency.

It would not shock me if this is Foles' camp putting this out looking to get another team to jump in. With Denver trading for Flacco, there are not a lot of teams with openings at QB.

I am happy for both of them...  :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I hope they do something with the offense in the draft.  Not an expert but all the talking heads keep saying how draft this years favors the defense, knowing Coughlin, its another DT in the first round.

I honestly think this is a terrible idea, Free Agent QB's rarely lead teams to sustainable success over the long haul. This reeks of win now or fired desperation.
And so it goes

I don't think it's meant to be substantial move. Would you rather they role into the 2019 season again with Bortles? Draft a QB Let's Foles navigate this season while the rookie learns. How often do you win with a rookie QB?

Who will Foles throw to?  What protection can our O line provide?

I'd almost rather stick with Bortles and bring in Antonio Brown and draft one of the freak WR in this years draft....
Also very impressive Oline guy from NC State in this draft...  Lot's of good choices IMO.

If Foles gets hurt who will the back up be?

lol... calm down... free agency hasn't even begun yet... we will be drafting players ... then there will be more free agents.  Foles will be QB... they will find a backup in the later rounds or pick up a cast off free agent as a backup

Of course its a substantial move, its the most important position on the field and even if the Jags are "bidding against themselves" it will cost
18 - 20 million per.

Yes I would prefer a rookie and begin to establish a competitive run for the next 10 - 12 years. Even teams like the Chargers that are up and down year after year. The right coach with some smart drafting and with Rivers they were never more than a year or two removed from being relevant.

The Jaguars are irrelevant right now, with Foles they maybe interesting for a year or 2, maybe they have a magical run in them a la 2017. I just don't see this as the Franchise defining QB that this team has consistently failed to develop since 2000.

They certainly have not had success drafting and developing franchise QBs...

That is unfortunately the most accurate statement that can be made prior to the start of FA and the Draft.

Being reported Foles is getting 4/88 with 50 mil guaranteed. Considering there appeared to be no other legit competition for his services, Lenny Curry is nodding with approval at the Jags negotiating skills.

Nothing this franchise love more than overpaying for free agents.  Maybe there was someone else trying to sign him, but I figure we were negotiating against ourselves.   But Foles makes me more optimistic than rolling with any of the options out there, plus its a weak draft this year for qbs.
