At least 50 dead, 400 wounded in shooting as Las Vegas Strip concert

Deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history

Update: Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo says the suspect Stephen Paddock killed himself prior to law enforcement entering his hotel room. And the number of injured has climbed to more than 400.

LAS VEGAS — A gunman perched high on the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas Strip casino unleashed a shower of bullets down on an outdoor country music festival below, killing at least 50 people and wounding more than 200 as tens of thousands of frantic concert-goers screamed and ran for their lives, officials said Monday. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Country music star Jason Aldean was performing Sunday night at the end of the three-day Route 91 Harvest Festival when the gunman opened fire across the street from inside the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. SWAT teams quickly descended on the concert and the casino, and officers used explosives to get into the hotel room where the suspect was inside, authorities said. The gunman died at the scene and was identified by Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo as Stephen Paddock, 64. A motive was not immediately known.

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Jim

Tragic doesn't even describe it.

Everything else I want to say is political so I'll save it for a dedicated thread.

Oh, Go for it!
There is nothing like a massacre to bring out internet political wisdom.
Nothing like 60 dead and 500 injured to do nothing about it.

Here's what's known about the shooter. Not much so far.

Gunman Stephen Paddock was an accountant who played $100-a-hand-poker

(CNN)The man police say killed at least 58 people on the Las Vegas Strip was a retired accountant who enjoyed playing $100-a-hand poker, his brother says.

Here's what else we know about Stephen Paddock, the assailant in the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history.
• He was 64 years old and lived in Mesquite, a retiree community about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas. He had previously lived in the Orlando, Florida, area.
• He was divorced, was not known to have children, and was living with a woman in a home in Mesquite.
• He'd never shown violent tendencies, said his brother, Eric Paddock of Orlando, Florida. "He was my brother and it's like an asteroid fell out of the sky," he said when he learned his sibling was the gunman in the Las Vegas massacre.

Lets see...A trump hating Democrat goes to a Jason Aldean concert (a singer that's known to be conservative and very patriotic) to slaughter a bunch of country fan concertgoers (a demo that overwhelmingly leans to the right). It doesn't take much to put two plus two together, or maybe believe the MSM like the rest of the sheeple... Look at his FB page...

i knew this from your previous posts but thanks for confirming once and for all that you are a complete and absolute moron.  This is not a political issue.  It is a moral issue.  A common-f@(!ing-sense issue.

Trump supporters should be able to go to a concert without threat of what just occurred in Las Vegas.  So should liberals.  And whoever the hell else wants to peacefully gather.

the fact that you focus on his political leanings reveals quite clearly that we don't need you or your opinion here or anywhere else.  piss off

Yes...please look at his Facebook page. And when you find it, share it with us (hint: it doesn't exist). And there is no evidence he is registered to vote as either a Democrat or Republican (though statistically, he'd be more likely to be registered as a Democrat, as it's the single largest political party in the USA by membership).

I'm not saying the guy wasn't a Trump-hater. I'm saying there's no evidence currently in the public domain that shows him to have been. His own family have said he had no political affiliation. Can we try and stick with the facts that are known and cut out the conspiracy theory bullshit? At least for a while? That YouTube link is embarrassing. You're better than that, I-10.

Uh, no. He's not. He's as disgusting as the shooter IMO. Just not guilty of murder.

What he is saying is equivalent to those who said because the Bush family was close to the Bin Laden Family (AND THEY WERE), they also bear responsibility for the tragic events of 9-11.  Bush was a fool but not complicit.

Looking forward to Faux News covering the back story, though.

Good... what an ass...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Horrible situation, we have a friend who lives out there and was at the show.  She's ok but two of her friends were shot, they'll be ok too.  I can't even imagine.

I saw this interview posted on another site, there might be more to the story.  I'm sure we'll find out in the coming days.
Even though as of now it looks like he was just some regular guy there has to be something that led this guy to action.

On the NRA's Twitter this past Friday they were promoting "Full Auto Friday"...

Any pro-gun folks have a constructive argument for not strengthening gun laws? The majority of the country (along with the rest of the developed world) is waiting.

Maybe it is time for that dedicated thread...

It is easy and free.

I was implying that perhaps the political discussion already occurring in this thread could be moved to a new thread, which I don't think regular users like myself can do.

On your point about vigilance, I think you are correct that that mindset is not a good thing. At a minimum it is adding stress to your life.

Speaking of changed behavior: I often don't use the horn in my car for fear of pissing off the wrong person on the road. I have patiently sat through a green light cycle before when the truck in front of me (which was laden with pro-gun stickers) didn't go. The event this past week on Race Track Road seem to demonstrate the need for such overly cautious behavior.

That Youtube video is bullshit and is based on a false claim made by trolls early on that identified the wrong man as the shooter. The trolls falsely named an ex-husband of Marilou Danley, the roommate and/or girlfriend of the actual shooter, Stephen Paddock. It was a deliberate effort to get gullible fools to buy and spread a false narrative.

Stephen Paddock had no Facebook page, was not registered to vote in either Florida or Nevada (for any party), and his family did not know him to belong to any political or religious groups. The details are still coming and who knows what they'll be.

While good for them, that's not exactly the "doing nothing about it" I was referring to.  I'm glad she got fired but that's hardly going to help prevent the next mass shooting, now is it?

With the various pyscho/terrorist events, does anyone else find themselves acting differently?
I have always been a careful driver but with the increase in distracted drivers I  began being hyper vigilante years ago and probably reach paranonia level when I have family with me. At this point, I doubt I can "turn it off" and don't even enjoy driving yet I have to be the one driving (control issue there).

I find myself going down the same path with other aspects. We travel a lot and I have found myself turning into a poor man's Jason Bourne in larger cities trying to be extra observant. Hasn't hit me so much in Jax but I can feel it.With just random violent crime, the London acid attack fetish, Machete yielding terrorists, psychos, etc, I find it hard not to. I am not saying we have changed our lifestyle (so no the terrorists "haven't won") but clearly my mindset has changed. Perhaps that is a good thing, but it doesn't feel like it is.

I understand. If I'm by myself, I'm ok. But with family, I fear for the worst. I have nightmares about getting in a random car accident with the wife and kids in the car. Nothing can bring them back if something bad happens, and that thought scares the crap out of me. So I'll do what I can to keep them out of harms way
