Riverplace Boulevard Makeover

I believe we've discussed this before, but it's up for final DDRB approval on Thursday, with work set to begin in October.

Speaking of Riverplace, I'm surprised that with all of the new development going on or at least proposed for the Southbank that nothing is being done with that nasty parking lot at the corner of Riverplace and Main in front of the Doubletree.  Was anything proposed there before the recession?

I would rather them spend money to makeover parts of 5 Points like Lomax, King St., or Edgewood in Murray Hill. Likewise, maybe jump start revitalization of St. Nicholas' Shoppes with Beach or Lakeshore with Blanding.

Right now, Riverside to me handles a ton of traffic up to Forest. It is not a walkable district on the side closest to the water by Haskell and the Y with large parking lots up front. Likewise, if most people are going for a walk, they are going down to the riverwalk. I think making Park better for potential development from Brooklyn to 5 Points would be a better investment.

Is the plan to continue these bike paths down Hendricks to Nira Street?? Just wondering if this somehow connects to the bicycle path that is going over the Fuller Warren bridge. Is there a different "loop" in mind?

There area already bicycle lanes on Hendricks, so this while tie into the shared use path on Nira, which will provide a direct connection to the Fuller Warren Bridge path.  However, it's not a part of the "loop" being developed on the Southbank/Northern San Marco.

Not bad.  Now if only development along that corridor would actually butt against the street.
