That building is supposed to be torn down and replaced by a 70 story tower.  However, that project is dead.  As for Bay, it will be interesting to see what ultimately happens.  Personally, I wouldn't be suprised if we see another inner city strip like Main Street or 8th in Springfield, Edgewood Avenue in Murray Hill, Philip Randolph Blvd, Hendricks or Myrtle Avenue grow to become a competing district on a much larger scale.  They all have the needed ingredients (although the council's new industrial preservation bill could kill off Myrtle Avenue):

1. A compact pedestrian type setting of available buildings
2. Competitive leasing rates compared to the Northbank.
3. Available free parking.
4. Although not downtown, still fairly centrally located.
5. None are threatened by JTA's BRT proposal or the courthouse situation.

This situation could end up very similar to how Dallas' districts turned out.  There's a smaller strip of bars and restaurants in downtown, near the 6th Floor museum and the much larger Deep Ellum entertainment district that replaced an obsolete warehouse district just east of downtown.

Quote• Look for Nick G’s Pizza on Bay Street to open in about three weeks. Also, the owners say they’ll have outdoor seating.

I know a couple of people who would like to invest in a Bay Street project.... but not if the BRT plan is implemented!

It would be a shame to see Bay Street finally come around only to see the new businesses suffer from their parallel parking being replaced with a bus only lane for buses coming every 90 seconds.  This is tough for downtown because if it isn't Bay, then its Adams, which is even worse.
