Edit: Full quote was just published on the TU site. It seems like Khan was actually talking about the 2019 Draft, rather than 2018. Post title edited accordingly.

Seems a year or two premature.

Totally agree.

Though there's nothing like a good sense of urgency to get things done.

Dallas seems like the leader to get the 2018 Draft, but I could see LA and Jacksonville being serious candidates for 2019 and 2020.

2019 is the perfect time. For optics, The Jags need to host the NFL draft before LA. My next guess is that there will be an announcement about a hotel near the stadium.

As I have said before, the Jags have a lot of good things to offer for an NFL draft. Good weather. Six other NFL franchises located within an 8 hour drive of Jax will lead to a lot of fan involvement which could be a huge win for the city's economy.

Put your name out there and get on the list. The NFL wants to keep owners happy. We may not get it in 2019 but look for 2020 or 2021.

Yeah, I say it would be best if the city held off in hosting the event because I think the NFL will try to market the draft as a whole lot more than what it is now. Like the Super Bowl, many other sidebar activities and attractions could be held to draw people to the area. Other franchises particularly the ones in the East Coast can have their state of the franchise gatherings in the region. Hotel and vacation packages can be sold or awarded to fans and potential season ticket holders to get them to come visit - maybe some friendly rivalry activities with other franchises' staff could be held to take advantageous of our recreational offerings. You could also go the gimmicky route and have drafted players get to jump into the stadium pools FWIW but hopefully in several years this is a bigger deal than it is now and becomes an excellent opportunity to showcase to the country what Jacksonville and the First Coast have to offer.

Should jacksonville be in the running for Super Bowl 56 in 2022?

The city can't meet the hotel requirements. The city and Jaguars agree that an NFL draft is a better event to host. The NFL draft is more for the common NFL fan. So, fans staying at the airport or the beaches isn't a big deal to the NFL. The Super Bowl is a huge corporate event that involves a high net clientele. The city can't handle an event like that anytime in the near future.

We did it before, we can do it again. But I doubt it's well advised at the moment compared to other things we could be seeking. Farther in the future, definitely.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Give it another decade for a Super Bowl bid. There are a lot of cities that need rewarding for new stadiums. Miami hasn't seen a Super Bowl since Peyton was his first in Indy. With more hotel rooms and a more vibrant downtown, I imagine the nice weather and continued stadium enhancements could land Jax on a short list by 2026-27, nearly 20 years after our last hosting.

At the pace that Jax moves, I'd say much longer than a decade. Be interesting to see what new proposals, transportation, etc or on the horizon for 2020.

Actually we probably can't...at least not without additional hotels.  We maxed out the cruise ships downtown, and the game's room requirements have gone up.

Miami is hosting in a few years.

JaxAvondale

In a few years, most of the Super Bowls will rotate between Vegas, LA, New Orleans, & Miami. Jax and the Jags are better served getting in the draft rotation once every 4-5 years.
