QuoteThere's finally some good news coming out of Coastline Drive and Liberty Street.

The construction contract for the beleaguered area — which had part of the roadway collapse into the St. Johns River in February 2015 — has been issued with a notice to proceed coming next Monday. This officially marks the start of the replacement project, according to an email sent to area residents by Tom Fallin, chief of the city's engineering and construction management division. The city was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

In his email, Fallin said the first work item will be installing a temporary access road between the Hyatt Regency Downtown and the Old City Hall Annex Building. The road is intended to assist the Hyatt with its services and will be a private facility.

It's a shame that the plan is to simply replace the existing structure. That parking lot is an ugly wasted space and Coastline Dr between Market and Liberty is the most useless bit of road in Downtown. I don't have an alternative but c'mon COJ get creative for once

The plan is to remove the structure and to construct a new riverwalk around a part of the river that has been exposed since the 1960s.

Did you mean to say 'covered' instead of 'exposed'?

I think that is the best decision. Makes the Courthouse property desirable hopefully.

Meaning the parking lot that's been covering the river?

Oh that is much better
