Detroit: The Motor City's Rebirth in Images

Detroit is a place on the move. Largely overlooked by negative media coverage , the reactivation of a great American city's urban core is well underway. Ultimately, words can't describe the turnaround underway in the city's core. Here's a narrative tour photographic look at the Motor City's rebirth by Ennis Davis, AICP of Modern Cities/Transform Jax.

Always love Detroit good to see so much movement there. I don't even remember the Eastern Market the last time I went. It's amazing to see a city do so much with so little.

And, once again, what Detroit has, Jacksonville has not.  Look at the M1 video and look at those names of LOCAL, very WEALTHY corporate magnates, who are COMMITTED to their city.  Dan Gilbert, Mike Ilitch, the Penske group, etc.  Detroit is hopping, right now.  The funny thing is, there are as many people in Jax that know about this rebirth as there are in West Michigan, where I live!  The media image (not to mention, 50 years of demise) doesn't allow for anything different.

As events would have it, just this past week, thanks to a business transaction, I ended up in Detroit and the Metro far northeastern Lake St. Clair area; "Anchor Bay", Harrison Township/Clinton River;the equivalent drive from Detroit to Harrison less than the drive from Jax to say......St. Augustine.Clinton River beats Downtown Jax in certain regards.......the aspects Ron Littlepage harps on,to no avail.....

Time Warp= last here on the Lakes,Detroit as a child in the early 60's.it's All Still there........ and Thriving. Downtown Detroit a highlight.
By Providence, not planned, time with Michigan Governor Staff person.

Alas-residents cheering water temps finally reaching 74 degrees........few or no kayaks, paddle boards,Gheenoe etc.

Michigan and Florida DOT Road Planning differences evident.
Possibly, "Growth Management" prevailing within adjacent areas to  Detroit have 'hemmed in' Growth aspirations, coupled with Detroit Malaise attitude. Only place to focus on is InwardDetroit:after all, the best places were developed first.

Glad my parents moved from Michigan to Florida. (Save certain Township road planning differences)

Basically impossible to compare and contrast, yet quite similar.
