Beau's path to becoming the first Osprey to go pro is closer.

Brooklyn Nets sign North Florida swingman Beau Beech to summer league deal

How can you not root for a Florida native who goes by the name of Beau Beech?

That's the name of the Nets latest summer league signing, a 6'9" swingman from North Florida who didn't get drafted Thursday, but had agreed to play for the Nets summer league team hours later. His alma mater announced the signing.

Beech averaged 15.9 points and 6.5 rebounds and shot 42.4 percent from deep over 32 minutes per game last season  He can reportedly play both swing positions.  Here's what Basketball Insiders wrote about him and his NBA prospects.

He's one of the most unique prospects in this year's draft class. Listed at 6'9, Beech played the majority of his time at North Florida at shooting guard. He's also proven that he can play at small forward, as well as some power forward. Given his size, he said he wants to show teams that he can do a number of different things at the next level.

The Nets scouted him at the Portsmouth Invitational in April, then worked him prior to the Draft.

UNF's Beau Beech is making a name for himself at the NBA Summer League.

Here is a highlight reel of him playing for the Nets against the Cavs in Las Vegas.

The Brooklyn Nets NBA Summer Team was defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in OT during the summer quarterfinals.

The Nets were down to the Cavs until UNF's Beau Beech came off the bench and sparked a run with (5) 3 pointers.

This completes the Summer League for Beau as the former Osprey awaits more decisions from the Nets.

He definitely showed he can play.

I hope he succeeds, but it's worth noting the Summer League box scores are largely meaningless. The talent level is extremely low.

The scores only have value as it relates to how the players performed together.

The summer league helps teams determine who they want to carry in the D-League teams and make sure they didnt miss any talent.  It also facilitates the scouts for the foreign teams so they dont have to fly all the talent overseas to tryout.

Beau will probably end up with a 1st or a 2nd tier Euro league. They do pay well for US talent. But life on the road in those leagues can be drudgery, and many players turn over after their contracts wrap up and make 1 more attempt in the NBA.

Former UNF basketball player Beau Beech was cut from the Nets final roster on October 18th.

The NY press essentially called him the "18th player" based on his play and salary. Unfortunately, NBA teams only permit 15 on their rosters.

It had become very clear in pre-season why they brought Beau into camp, the team shot a record number of 3 pointers and Beau had done well in this area.

Next steps are unknown at this time.

Beech earned $45,000 for his time in camp.

Beau Beech was signed to the Nets D-League Team (Long Island Nets) for a salary of $543,471 and has been showing off his exceptional 3 pointer skills.

The following are some of his highlight reels put out by the NBA.

Go Beau!

Wow, awesome. I'm happy for him  ;D Did not realize D-leaguers could make so much money though. Wonder why so many travel to foreign countries to make about the same when they could stay here and still "chase" the NBA dream.

It seems when the NBA reorganized the D League a few years ago, it essentially became like a NFL practice squad where players can be brought up at anytime to play in a regular season game.

With regards to the Nets, 3 players were given better contracts, Yogi Ferrell from Indiana, Chris McCullogh from Syracuse and Beau Beech from UNF.

Thus far Yogi and Chris have played in NBA games filling in for injuries. Beau has not been pulled up yet.

I have watched the games (only on Facebook Live) and notice that only the three of them are wearing Brooklyn grey shoes.

Chris McCullough actually played a home D game in the afternoon, and then was pulled up that night to play for the Nets game. It's rare to have a player in 2 games in one day.

He did pretty good in both games.  My hope is that Beau surprises some people. He is beginning to look like a Kyle Korver when the ball rotation brings the forward up to the top of the three circle for the shot.

Exactly...even more reason to actually stay in the US. Anyway, here's to hoping he can find a niche for himself!
