QuoteNew United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz suffered a heart attack and has been admitted to a Chicago-area hospital, according to reports from Dow Jones and CNBC. A United Airlines (NYSE: UAL) spokesman did not immediately return several phone calls seeking confirmation and comment.

Doctors are assessing Munoz's condition in order to determine whether the CEO is fit to continue in his high-pressure role as United's top executive, according to the reports.

Munoz, 56, was thrust into the job in early September after former United CEO Jeff Smisek abruptly resigned amid allegations he was involved in activities concerning the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that are the focus of a federal probe.
