^Pretty much, lol but don't take it too serious, pee. No need to stress out over a random article on a website. Life is too short. :)

Oh, it takes way more than that to stress me out. :) I just don't understand the purpose of it other than some weird bizarro world agenda using an apples to oranges argument.

I also hope content like this isn't a sign of things to come here. I really enjoy the site & articles most times. ;)

Oh, that's it?  All you had to do is just ask. I have nothing to hide.

I've been quietly testing content, how it's produced, how it's displayed, presented, etc. for months now.

I typically post general topics, regardless of whether they are directly related to Jax or not, in various forums. Here's an example:

FSU's Dalvin Cook charged with battery, indefinitely suspended
http://www.metrojacksonville.com/forum/index.php/topic,24811.0.html

With that said, I do post news about things happening in other cities on the front page, from time to time. Here's an example:

More Attractions Headed Florida's Way
http://www.metrojacksonville.com/article/2015-mar-more-attractions-headed-floridas-way

Both of those examples were tests, just like this one.  In this particular case, I wanted to see what the response would be if posted on the front page as a "secondary" article.  So, now let me explain what a secondary article is.  We run content all the time that one could argue is not cover story material.  When we do, we may publish them in the middle of the night so the feature daily story will immediately bump it, when it goes live (typically 3am).

As I said waayyy back in this thread, we're not changing from what we already do.  Nevertheless, the response and analytical data is pretty interesting, comparing a forum post verses a front page post, both of which (in this case) took the exact same time to get up.

It's good data to know, track and understand from a backsite perspective.

No worries, Lake. I don't think people have a problem with posting front page news stories about other happenings around Florida. But feature posting two rednecks throwing down in a Publix seems more like tabloid trash IMHO. I think most would agree.

I mean, if that's news worthy, then you could certainly fill the front page almost daily with stuff like that just from Jacksonville alone. The fact that it was two whites doing it in a nice suburb means nothing, unless of course that was the real purpose of the feature. ;)

I heard that this incident all started over someone leaving their shopping cart in a parking spot and not returning it to the store/corral. Any aggression resulting from this heinous act is completely understandable.

Give these guys a break, it's summer!  I bet the editors are at Jax Beach chilling like villians!

lol, how does this relate to Jacksonville?

One possible way it can relate to Jax....or any community in this country, is the way we generally view our inner city neighborhoods verses our suburbs.  If I mentioned there was a brawl in grocery store, most would think such an event would happen in Winn-Dixie off State & Union, moreso than Publix in Nocatee. If it were off State & Union, then there would be talk about high crime and thugs in Springfield and downtown.

Just on this forum alone, I can't count the number of threads where people have mentioned avoiding stuff like this is a reason for moving to areas like Northern St. Johns County and avoiding Northwest Jax.  We (Jax included) even go as far as to structure our public policy, placing neighborhoods we're afraid of at an economic disadvantage to newer posh areas. Reality is, if Nocatee is our suburban cream of the crop, when it comes to newer new urbanist communities, it really doesn't hold a candle to what Orlando's Baldwin Park has developed into. Nevertheless, despite the manicured lawns, low percentage of minorities, good schools, etc., you can't escape idiots.

True, bad stuff happens everywhere, but the propensity, likelyhood, number of incidence lower in select surrounding areas.Same for certain areas within Duval. Of Course.

Almost gotta giggle about coincidental "Brawl" headline two days ago- Westside Apartment complex, young people, police response, youngsters attack police - and the Police spokesman suggested nothing to see here, not worthy of reporting.

An acquaintance spoke of the subject Brawl scene neighborhood, the changes, and that if "it" moves much closer, he's outa here.

First of all, this is not a "ritzy" Publix - is there such a thing?
Perhaps this is referring to some of the high real estate in BP.

And to suggest that this is in suburban Orlando is somewhat inaccurate -- Baldwin Park is about 5 miles from downtown Orlando.
There is actually a lot going on in Baldwin Park right now, new restaurants, decent infill, and a renewed sense of "place" that has made the neighborhood vibrant and self sustaining.

Suburban in terms of population density and development pattern.  Several of the census tracks surrounding Baldwin Park have population densities less than 3,000 residents per square mile and Colonial becomes a pretty typical suburban autocentric arterial east of Bumby Avenue. With that said, Baldwin Park is a great infill development with a residential population density approaching 5,000/square mile now.  I hope some of our suburban areas can redevelop in a similar fashion.

Also, while it isn't what you'll find in South Beach, Baldwin Park's Publix is a nice one, in terms of layout and integration into the surrounding development. Publix certainly has worse in several areas across the state.

I would say the Publix by Lake Eola is about as ritzy as they can get.
