A real abuse of the visa system. Plus the outrage of having to train and educate your replacement. Stinks.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/04/us/last-task-after-layoff-at-disney-train-foreign-replacements.html?_r=0

Quote250 Disney employees were told in late October that they would be laid off. Many of their jobs were transferred to immigrants on temporary visas for highly skilled technical workers, who were brought in by an outsourcing firm based in India. Over the next three months, some Disney employees were required to train their replacements to do the jobs they had lost....
According to federal guidelines, the visas are intended for foreigners with advanced science or computer skills to fill discrete positions when American workers with those skills cannot be found. Their use, the guidelines say, should not "adversely affect the wages and working conditions" of Americans. Because of legal loopholes, however, in practice, companies do not have to recruit American workers first or guarantee that Americans will not be displaced.

Too often, critics say, the visas are being used to bring in immigrants to do the work of Americans for less money, with laid-off American workers having to train their replacements.

The Southern Baptist Convention and the American Family Association voted to boycott Disney over opposition to Disney offering domestic partnership benefits to its gay employees.  Let's see if they call for a Disney boycott over this.

I won't hold my breath.

The Times had almost 3000 comments on this story. Some of the people who wrote in were so angry they were going to sell their stock. One person said that he would buy the stock because Disney badly needs activist stockholders.

The Disney Layoff is going political.

The newswires are reporting that Senator Bill Nelson has asked DHS to open an investigation into Disney's use of H1-B outsourcing firms to replace employees.

At the same time the union that represents the actors who portray Disney characters at the parks have filed a grievance with the NLRB against a 2 week policy banning the actors from saying which characters they portray.

Yikes, Disney blacklisted the laid off employees to keep them from coming back as a contractors.

Per The Daily Caller:

The American tech workers Disney laid off in January after forcing them to train their foreign replacements were put on a "black list" that disqualified them from hire by any contractor that works with Disney, emails obtained by The Daily Caller News Foundation between one of the laid off workers and a recruiting firm show.

The worker, who asked to remain anonymous because he is waiting on legal advice, learned of the black list when he sent his resume and performance review to a local IT recruiting firm that wanted to place him with a company contracting with Disney.

He had plenty of past experience doing similar work for Disney contractors, and had received the highest possible rating on his performance review, so he thought he would be a top candidate for the job.

But in an email sent last week and obtained by TheDCNF, the recruiting firm informed him that he is out of the running because he is on a black list, since he is one of the hundreds of tech workers Disney displaced in January.

Indeed.  Why would "Christians" want to boycott a company that fires their workers and replaces them with non-citizens, hurting not only those workers families but the larger community as well when they can boycott a company that does something that doesn't hurt anyone and in fact might just help those given benefits families.

Yeah, and bet those radical Moslem's won't boycott Disney either though they are well known for executing gay people in the Mid-East. Which begs the question just what the hell Baptists, American Family or Moslem's have to do with this story?  Perhaps those who would accuse people with beliefs different then their own of 'hate' should occasionally look at the bile they post on MJ?

Back to the point of the article and the story, it fits perfectly with a low level Disney Executive (retired) that is a good friend of mine when he told me; "Bob, the secret is, the mouse is really a rat!"

You mean people such as yourself who have no problem with organizations who call for boycotts of a company that extends benefits to their employees but are strangely silent when the same company fucks over its employees?

If you ever did construction contracting down there you knew that.

Actually it sounds like they are replacing "employees" with "contracted services".

Oh?

In concept this isn't really a new phenomena, as publicly traded companies are forced to constantly find ways to increase shareholder value. Some just tend to take cost cutting a bit too far and end up pissing everyone off.

yup and let's be honest, the first one is about abortion, the second one is a traditional family, and the third one is about Christianity.
