Kona Hosts 4th Annual GoSkate Day Hemming[SK8]Park 2015

One of Jacksonville’s most anticipated events is back! Go Skate Day Hemming [SK8]Park 2015 will feature a full weekend, as in two full days, of skateboarding in historic Hemming Park. Formerly known as Go Skate Day Hemming Plaza, Go Skate Day Hemming [SK8]Park is a twist on the annual action sports event, building on the Downtown landmark’s recent name change. Go Skate Day Hemming [SK8]Park 2015 will transform Hemming Park into an urban skatepark, bringing Florida’s skateboard culture to Downtown Jacksonville. There will be family friendly areas, as well as challenging, fun obstacles for beginners, enthusiasts and experts alike.

This is an awesome event that my friends' kids have attended every year.  Word on the street is that there is some impostor go skate (with the organizers unaffiliated with the past 3 years' event, but taking credit for those years nonetheless) being held at RAM.

Go Skate Day is an official annual holiday conceived by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) to promote skateboarding. It is usually marked on June 21, but will be celebrated by most people on the 20th, because it's a Saturday.

So, they're not "imposters" just another group of people celebrating Go Skate Day.

You're referring to The Block Skate Supply. Just say it.

I've seen the events on FB, but I haven't seen any of the posing as Kona that you are insinuating.

Yeah. Looks like the other Go Skate Day is going on in the RAM space on Sunday, June 21, which is the second day of the Hemming Park event. The website contains pictures of skating at Hemming which definitely suggests they're connected, though it doesn't mention Hemming anywhere.

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Reading the IASC site, it doesn't seem like one group takes ownership for the event per city like what happens with other events or event series'. Anyone who wants to put on an event for Go Skate Day can do so. I would have been surprised if The Block didn't host something because this is their niche, their neighborhood (the shop is located on Park Street in Brooklyn), and they have the resources to make it happen. So why would they let Go Skate Day pass without a celebration? It doesn't make sense.

On the same note, Free Comic Book Day happens on the first Saturday each May and almost every comic book store in town participates. Most people that I know go to Superhero Hive at Park and King. However, to say that since Superhero Hive has been doing it the longest that it is, technically, "their" event wouldn't be in the spirit of the idea. The idea, for both Go Skate Day and Free Comic Book Day, is that anyone can celebrate and anyone can put together an event no matter how big or how small.

Here are some key excerpts from the webpage that I linked above:

QuoteSkateboarders everywhere will show their love and support for skateboarding by holding fundraisers, contests, protests and demos. They'll skate across cities, gather in skateparks, stream into their local skate shop and some will even revel in the solitary act of skateboarding alone at their favorite spot, all bringing together the skateboarding community in the grind heard around the world.

QuoteGo Skateboarding Day is a cooperative of decentralized events that take place around the globe. Skateboard retailers, manufacturers, skateparks, distributors, organizations and individuals of all colors, creeds, and attitudes hold skateboarding events to celebrate the holiday. Skateboarders around the world create their own events and traditions to celebrate skateboarding.

Given the adversity that skateboarding has had to face over the years, what does it hurt to have a weekend long celebration promoting its positivity? The community, as a whole, will benefit.

"Word on the street" and "deliberately" MMR?

Without any proof of your claim you're the one deliberately rumor mongering.  They used a picture from the Hemming event that they probably took themselves.  They probably did help with the event but considering you don't even know who they are how can you discount their involvement with Hemming?

Nobody felt entitled enough to question your support of the yuppie waynestock thing from a few weeks ago.

Not sure if you don't understand or if you are being willfully ignorant? The point I am making: yes this is a "holiday"-- go do your thing, whatever it is, skating-wise.  However, some people thought of holding an event on the holiday to celebrate the holiday,a nd they have worked very hard for the past few years to make the Hemming Park event.  Now, some other folks have decided to start their own celebration that day, which is fine, except that they have been deliberately making people think they have been running the Hemming event for the past 3 years, which they havent; they have had no involvement with the Hemming event.  Thats all I am saying.

Neither because I am well aware that the folks who are hosting the one at RAM were in partnership with Kona Skatepark and PB&J for at least two of the past four years. It wasn't until 2014 Go Skate Day that "some people" were no longer involved. So you are incorrect in your assumption that they haven't been involved with the event at Hemming.

People work together and stop working together all the time in this city. It happens. However, even if they haven't been saying they were involved, they wouldn't be wrong for speaking about their involvement because it is true.
