Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

BennyKrik

Mike's done a good job of promoting his friends and his Folio Weekly girlfriend's friends (Caron S.). They're a real power couple.
Between the two of them, they will control which business (i.e. restaurants) appear in Folio Weekly, quality of reviews, and whose SBA application gets attention. ..and if you're a minority business owner...you'll never see the light of day cause you ain't a part of the 'cool people' club

Offering critical opinions and opposing viewpoints is one thing. Anonymous whinging on the internet is another. I doubt you seriously think it's positive or productive.

Being in someone's network always offers an advantage. That's why people network. However accusing people of exclusionary tactics probably ought to come with some evidence in order to be taken seriously.  I am biased I am friends with both of them  knowing them it is definitely my opinion that promoting jax and the core to a greater extent is more on the agenda than working for their friends.

Yes I am anonymous. I don't ask you who you are.

You do not think there is a moral hazard between a food critic from Folio Weekly and her significant other who picks and chooses which local businesses get media attention and get promoted? All this translates into dollars. Do you not suspect FW's Best of Jax awards are purchased by advertising dollars?

Everything is this town is vetted. You gotta know the right people to be invited to food and business events. Caron S and Mark Field are those people.

Who the hell coined the term 'Best Food Trucks in Jacksonville' or where did it come from? I hardly believe some of them qualify vs their peers.

Why does Matt Pitman of Times Union actively promote his significant other's Sally Ann Vintage Fashion Truck and his personal friend's FreshJax business on camera in a segment he shot for TU, when RAM opened in 2015. One would believe RAM is all about those two particular vendors out of 160 others.

Anyone and everyone should be shocked by how a food critic/Newspaper or market manager chooses favorites who then receive business support from community and funding. May I please have local beer at OneSpark 2016 from breweries who do not throw their weight around town?

Let me know when you're done with this article and I'll have another one for you to check out.

Matt is not a journalist and his features are not news. Many are "sponsored." Further blurring the lines between news and advertising.

BennyKrik

With respect to RAM segment, it wasn't sponsored. It actually appeared as if Matt came to RAM to report about RAMs opening day.
Wesssider, you may respond to my comments.
Posting links to articles with instructions on how to suck my way upto to top is lame

So rather than devoting their own time and money to promoting people they know and projects they can vouch for, they should devote it to people they don't know and projects they can't vouch for. Sounds like a winning strategy.

Sour grapes much, BennyKrik?
Like, OH MY GAWD, SOMEONE DARED TO HAVE AN OPPOSING VIEWPOINT FROM THE GROUPTHINK CIRCLE-JERK?!?!! CAN'T BE THAT THEY ARE EXPRESSING CRITICAL THOUGHT, THEY MUST BE HATERS!!  Such weak shit and the reason downtown will never prosper the way it should-- people can't take critical opinions and/or anyone saying anything against the approved narrative.

I actually find there are plenty of opposing viewpoints on this site, it actually is what draws me to the discussions.   I don't even know Mike, but I have seen his impact on making DT a better place to live and visit.  From what I have seen he is trying to make a difference, and I doubt his efforts are exclusionary, just because someone doesn't run in his "circle".    He seems to be an advocate for all the food trucks.
