It's time to move past being a city with potential, and become a city living up to it's potential.

If the issues are all about downtown, why not film it downtown? What about the issues concerning district 14?

After all District 14 is not downtown and most of us don't really care about the issues concerning downtown.

Hey Mtrain, biker and pedestrian safety, as well as preserving the St John's River, are not downtown issues. They are issues facing all of Jacksonville, including District 14. Additionally, those issues that are specific to downtown play an important roll in Jacksonville's future and we should all be concerned about them. Every major city both regionally and nationally has a vibrant downtown, by making ours a more inviting and prosperous area we can alleviate some of the issues we have in Riverside and generate more revenue to pay for education and maintenance problems all over town. For too long there has been a disconnect between the different parts of town, dismissing problems downtown as "their" problems is counterproductive. I think we should work together to solve all of our city's problems rather than passing the buck on specific issues simply because "that's not my side of town." I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on what the issues are concerning District 14.

...how can one believe that all Jacksonville is NOT affected by the dystopia which is currently called "downtown?"

FYI

if Jacksonville had an amazing downtown that people loved going to and were moving to, then it would have a positive effect on all of Duval County. Even District 14.

Just saying............

I don't know what district you live in, but there are plenty of people in District 14 who don't give a rat's ass about downtown. Many never see it. Focus on the district first, before you want to fix downtown. The money given to the councilperson is for projects in the district, not downtown.

If you want to solve downtown, go be an At-Large council person. They can afford whatever agenda they see fit.

Jason,

I mean you no disrespect, but you cannot run a District 14 council race on purely issues that you deem to be important to downtown. Many people in District 14 do not care about downtown, many don't ever see downtown daily or weekly. Libraries, Parks, new bus lines, these are all things you can work on IN district 14 that affect people IN district 14.

Can one councilman fix the river issues? I don't think so, it flows through many other districts as well as the at-large councils. Why not work with your constituents to resolve the issues inside District 14? The mess of Willowbranch Library, the storm fund monies to replace septic tanks that leak into the river in District 14, the traffic and pedestrian issues inside District 14 should be of concern. I think biker lanes are needed, for sure, but this issue affects such a small number of people in District 14.

So think globally act locally?

I don't think there's anything wrong with his approach. The people in district 14 (or any district in the county) who think downtown doesn't matter to them are wrong. Downtown and the river are important to every district.

I'll agree with you one councilman can't fix the river issue, but 1 councilman can get the conversation started, educate the rest of city council and maybe even educate the voters.

Your list of libraries and parks are important, but that's not really a big deal. The libraries will continue, bus lines will run/change routes. Downtown & the river should be a goal of ALL councilmen.
