Four years in office and his claim to success is that he didn't raise taxes and cut government jobs.  That's a pretty sad record of accomplishment.  Of course, at least he has held an elected position, more than another candidate can say.

Neptune.  Bill Bishop who is running for mayor is currently sitting in an elected legislative position as a member of city council.  In fact his time in elected office is greater than that of Alvin Brown.  The two other candidates for mayor have not held elected local office.  First Lenny Curry who is claiming to be a political outsider but in fact long held the "appointed" position as Chairman for the State GOP.  Simply put he is no outsider to politics but has no experience in local government workings.  The other candidate and Omega Allen NPA also has not held an elected office.

To the statement that Brown did not raise taxes, technically he did not but in reality he forced that decision onto our city legislators on the council when he failed repeatedly to submit a viable or balanced budget.  He let them do the dirty work but it was his failure to come up with a viable budget that created the need for the tax hike in order to keep the city up and running.  As far as his pay promise, he did keep that but did not comment about whether or not he is still not in the pension plan.  Upon his election last go round after promising not to take a pension he filled out the paperwork to get into the pension program and abandoned that effort when media made the fact known.  I wonder if that has changed and if it hasn't why he made no mention of that in his ad?

Former Chairman Curry was the "another candidate" I was referencing who has never held an elected public office.  A political insider of the highest order, but never elected to a public office.

Everybody just get out there and vote!

Absolutely Jerry, people need to engage in the process and vote.  Better still is that they take the time to become informed voters.  Many in Jacksonville need to understand that when we vote for an individual to represent our city and our needs, that vote cannot be made based upon their "charisma" but rather based upon their competence, experience and ability to lead.  In tandem with that it is paramount that people understand the political dynamics in Jacksonville that surround our unitary election process.  Those dynamics for the power players in our city are anything but unitary and instead are politically driven based upon party affiliation. That is particularly problematic in Jacksonville because of it's size and importance to those who continue to work at maintaining political control of our state.  Right now Jacksonville is still under the influence of a group of individuals who wield power and money and as such are currently still behind our political process in a very big way.  At some juncture I hope the voters will begin to understand that our elected officials should indeed behave in a unitary fashion and represent all in Jacksonville equally.  The question then becomes who is pulling the strings and how to recognize it?  Let me give you a single hint to begin with.  Look to the Civic Council and influence in our Chamber and how well that influence is managed by the GOP.  Also look to the Democrat held districts, the make up of those and queen bee Corrine Brown to see who is pulling the strings there and who does so with the happy conciliation of powerful GOP players along with some Dem players who simply want to see a Democrat, any Democrat in office.  Know the game and how it is rigged.  Once you know that, you can vote accordingly.  Currently in the race for mayor there is a single viable and informed candidate who is not being manipulated by either party.  Focus on what that person has to say and why the major party players would have that person ignored during debates and by media at these early stages.  It has to do with their ability to influence and control that person to their own agenda's.  The one who will not go along to get along is the one that should be put into leadership.

Here's the mayors latest ad, referencing wallethub.com rating Jax as the #1 city to start a new business, and the city getting 36,000 new jobs.
