Foxcatcher opening nationwide next week. Not in Jacksonville until 1/16.

Why does it take so long for some movies to open in Jacksonville.

Seriously, look at the list of the hundreds of theaters playing Foxcatcher by next weekend.

But in Jacksonville, we get one theater on 1/16.

Some movies will do a limited release at year end to get included in the Academy voting lists. And then right as nominations come out they can add it to the promos.

Technically, with the use of digital distribution there are no technical limitations. But there may be an issue of not conflicting with another movie on the limited number of screens in Jacksonville.

I get that. Just frustrating to see another film opening all over Florida by next weekend but not here for a month.

Despite the studio's label, next week is hardly a nationwide release in the traditional sense. The fact the Facebook site is listing individual theaters for 12/19 tells you it's not nationwide in essence.

In general, Jacksonville holds its own extremely well amongst its peers in the southeast when it comes to limited film releases. We have friends that make the drive up from Orlando fairly often to see films early. Sun-Ray in particular does a great job when it comes to limited-release film.

Looking at the full release schedule, there are only 11 theaters in Florida this film will be playing at before it arrives here.

Seems to happen alot.  I remember The Descendants was out in Orlando months before it came here.

I would in no way say Jacksonville holds its own at all. There have been many movies showing in Orlando, Gainesville before ever reaching us.
