The stupidity continues at the expense of the tax payers. Will Duval be next?

QuoteRed light cameras in St. Pete are soon coming down.

Beginning Oct. 1, drivers will no longer have to worry about red light camera citations. Negotiations between the city and American Traffic Solutions terminated the April 2011 contract allowing the company to run the city's red light citation program.

It means the city will no longer use red light cameras.

But it also means a big expense for the city.

St. Pete will have to pay ATS around $100,000 to remove infrastructure. The city is also paying $2 for each citation sent out between now and then.

An investigation last year found yellow lights didn't stay on as long as the Florida Department of Transportation recommends. The city eventually fixed the timing issue.

Once the Sept 30th deadline rolls around, ATS will stop issuing citations and begin removing the 22 cameras located at 10 intersections.

yeah and Jacksonville acted like it was the greatest thing ever even after other communities including LA were taking them out.

Crabernacle

Not surprising, it seems that many municipalities around the country are wising up and getting rid of these "revenue generators." Of course Jacksonville is hell bent on installing these on every major intersection. I wonder how much it will cost when we inevitably tear them out?

Ocklawaha

Watch the legal aspects of this too, and I mean death and dismemberment! Several major cases are already in the pipeline because someone knew of the lights, panicked and slammed on the brakes whilst driving 2 car lengths in front of a semi on a 45 mph urban street. Mashed potatoes, and guess who's going to end up footing the bill?

Noone

I was recently at Beach and Southside and emergency vehicles were going through the intersection and the 3 cars that I counted stopped and it was green then turned red. I was wondering how those pictures are handled.
