Fortunately no-one was killed... Hopefully some good comes from this. It'd be nice to see some money put into that building to fix it up a bit

Thankful no one was seriously injured. I have always admired that old building. I hope you are right and it can be saved. The damage looks pretty severe. It would be a shame if it has to comes down. :(

Wonder if this incident helps or hinders the case for reducing the road to 2 lanes.

That building is done for.

I had a client with a building damaged almost identically to this one, although the cause of the damage to his was just plain ole' negligence of a contractor working on a better jacksonville road widening project, not a big-rig crashing into it. While this is certainly a more dramatic cause, the result is the same. Once an unreinforced brick building is structurally destabilized at a corner like that, it's very difficult and expensive to save it. The city will demolish what's left within 48 hours. Stephendare can speak extensively to this, it was his building in Springfield I'm referring to.

This sucks. The building comes down tomorrow. Just lost a great building that was being renovated and a long time local seafood market.

^Agree. Had gone in on occasion to buy local. A true Mom and Pop and just loved the building.

he had to be cruising through there to shove that rig in there like that. It is a shame to see the building go as it is really a good looking structure.

Again really sucks. New Town is a considered a food desert and a place like this is where many residents shopped. The owner is 70, so I'm not sure this business will be replaced.

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

This is like winning the lotto for MCCD.

Really a shame. I loved driving by that building everyday on my way to work. It had so much character to it, I loved taking photographs of it.

JaxUnicorn

And there was no way to only demolish a portion of the building?  Just asking...

How were they able to assess the building and arrange for demolition and carry it out that same night? Something not right here.
