Do any Jax Colleges offer a program in Urban and Regional Planning?

I will graduate from Florida State this winter with a B.S. and am considering a move to Jax from Tallahassee. But, I need to know if any colleges have a planning program in the Jax area.

nope...the only accredited programs in FL are at UF, FSU, and FAU....also, USF just started one but it is not accredited yet.

I recommend that you check out the Graduate School guide on Planetizen for more info.

Too bad UNF doesnt pick up on this and offer a program.  I would love to be an adjunct professor.

FSU's planning program is consistently ranked as the best in Florida and is highly ranked nationwide.  I had a great experience when I went through the DURP program and nearly *gulp* 10 years later I am still happily working in the planning profession.  UNF has a Public Administration program that some planner friends of mine have been through, but you would definitely get a more specialized education from an accredited planning program.  You might want to consider sticking around Tally for a couple of more years.

What 4 year degrees do Urban & Regional planners usually get before going for their masters?

I feel your dissappointment about the lack of urban planning programs in the Jacksonville area, TD. I had wanted to study it here but somehow I wound up in the freakin I.T. field. I need a redo.

planners have various undergrad degrees....some include architecture, engineering, environmental science, geography, political science, public administration, sociology....my undergrad was in journalism (with a minor in urban studies).

I work as an economist for a consulting firm and we deal with TONS of government Urban Development and Planning entities and many of those people are P.E.'s (Professional Engineers) in an array of areas of city planning, development, implementation, etc.
I, myself, am a degree'd Political Scientist specializing in International Relations and Studies and found this area of business to be a good fit and very lucrative for me.
UNF does offer a BA minor in Urban and Metropolitan Studies that fits perfectly in line with a Political Science Major and some Economics and other specialty areas as well.
If its any consolation, I am a UNF alum and absolutely LOVE the University...so GO THERE!
