Why is the skyway closed on the weekends? Wouldn't a lot of the church-goers benefit from it being open? There's a stop right near FBC.

Not sure how it would benefit FBC attendees, except possibly eating at the Landing for lunch or other places open downtown.

Parking is not an issue as they have 2 city block size parking garages on the west side of the church and  another one on the east side, most of them connected by over head cross walks.

When I attended there in the mid '90's to early 2000 it held most of the parking easily. If attendance is down as has been reported, they have more than enough parking.

Its not an issue for FBC, as they have built enough parking garages to accommodate most of their Sunday church attendees

I was thinking of the FBC attendees that live in San Marco, it would very convenient to just walk to the san marco station and get of at Hemming. Or, for the elderly who can't/don't drive.

At any rate, why is it closed on the weekends for the "rest of us?" If it's for business persons only, then it should close at 6. It doesn't make much sense to have it closed ALL weekend.

I haven't been back in Jax for that long, but I'll guess that it was at one time open on the weekends but found to be used too little to warrant being open.  The three parking lots for FBC could be reduced to one, if and when effective mass transit exists providing connectivity between the city center and the outlying areas.

A few years back, JTA deemed there was not enough weekend riders to justify the expense of running it. Perhaps better integrating duplicate bus routes and making it seamless with the existing bus system would resolve that issue. Since JTA is in the middle of redesigning their system, reopening the Skyway on weekends should be considered.

A majority of the weekend events do not occur within proximity of the Skyway.

They occur over in the sports district.
