tufsu........any shelter beats nothing at all! Still not really sure about placement, as in rush hour foot traffic across the face, bus trying to discharge or take on passengers, then add bike riders trying to stow or remove their wheels, wheel chairs going off and on, then add weather when everyone is trying to stay kinda dry! For shelters outside of downtown, that might be optimum placement but not sure in the downtown enviroment! One person gets bumped at the wrong time, bus stands a good chance of running them over! I would have thought placing the shelter at an angle in relation to the curb and closer to the street, would funnel foot traffic behind and keep the face open for the shelter users? People have a tendency to move toward an open area and the way this is set up, I think they are asking for issues that could be avoided!

Why do we continue to ignore the tropical storm weather conditions and fail to have coverage from shelter to bus? As I've said before, a simple butterfly roof overhanging the curb would do wonders for passengers boarding on a very wet day.

HellifIknow Ock! For 10K I think we could do better! Still have a lack of seating and not sure just how many sardines are supposed to squeeze into the thing! Solar panels are probably for lighting the advertisements and did not see any battery storage! 10K not counting cost of installation and maintenance and don't see any historical application or design............I am undecided! I think we could do better for sure!

If you graded JTA on everything they do like a test in school, all I'd ask from them is a B at this point. You can't expect a D-F student to get straight A's honestly.  To me, this shelter meets that criteria, and I'd give them a solid B at least.  I agree with lake that I'd prefer transparent shelters, but again, if they got a B on everything they did, we'd have a far superior JTA than we do now.

Nice Job.

well, hopefully those grades will continue to improve across the board.

Agree....They certainly are not the worst end-product I have seen.

I actually like the the new shelters, it's the roof in our SUB-Tropical city that sucks. Find some way, any way, to cover the passenger from shelter to bus to shelter. Shelter's 101? This REALLY isn't that hard. The only other addition I would like to see is FREE-WIFI operated off the Solar Power Cell's. It's something better business oriented Cities and Transit Agencies are going to so we probably won't do it until about the time keyboards are obsolete.

Grades got nowhere to go but up.............hopefully! Got lots of room for improvement people, not to mention a heap pot full of shelters that need to go up since they are kinda short about 1200 or 1300 or so!

Sorry to pull up this old thread, but I just saw JTA installing new bus shelters on Lane Ave. They look nice.

CS...the ones that will be used along the BRT route are still being designed.

The one installed this week (at the NE corner of Bay and Main) is the style that will be used on non-BRT streets downtrown....there are supposed to be 24 new shelters installed.

As for cost, I don't know for sure....but it seems like it would be less than $10,000 each...and yes, I sure hope that the shelters they replace will get re-installed in other parts of town.

RAH! The ones on the BRT will feature different paint!

Well Damn Boys and Girls! I was right again.

Ock, you're about to hit 10,000 posts.  Make your next one count!

actually Ock...those are the old designs...they may have changed now that the BRT is called the Flyer

It's about time.  I hope these kinds of shelters aren't being built just for the BRT lines and I do hope that there is a private funding provision that allows businesses to advertise either with stills or with electronic LED signage at the stations to offset some of the public costs.
