A guerrilla street artist who goes by "Keith Haring's Ghost" has been beautifying the electric box eyesores of Jacksonville, Florida with images inspired by the late, great Haring as protest to the city failing to pass an equal rights ordinance that would have granted workplace protection based on sexual orientation.

Any pictures? Sad that graffiti and tagging remain, but art gets destroyed.  Maybe some legal places to paint will appear.

Long live Keith Haring's ghost !

Plagiarizing some better artist's work and defacing public property is just a cheap publicity stunt to try to draw attention; just like a naughty child.  Not classy at all.

The city cannot allow the stuff to stay or even give permission to the guy to do it since they would then have to let anyone else who wants to make a political statement to put their "art" on public equipment.  Personally I think it is nothing more than vandalism.  You want to make a political statement find someone who will let you place your art on their building.

Apparently it is the message that makes it so endearing and "acceptable".  I suppose if he was putting up swastica's fewer people would approve of the ghosts work...  8)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Agreed.

The Keith Hering Foundation has sent him a letter objecting to his unauthorized use of Hering's work.  What the lawyers call a "cease and desist" letter.

He's currently looking for a large (and legal) wall to use in the Downtown area. Fyi.

Just so long as he quits plagiarizing the work of others and stops doing illegal stuff.

What else do you call it when someone copies another artist's work?  Is there a word that applies to just art copying?
Maybe plagiarizing applies only to written stuff?  Off to the OED!

Mimicry is the highest form of flattery.

By signing these things KHG, he's basically saying "yeah, I painted it, but it's not even my work."

It's an homage, that's all. Take from it what you will.
