Just thought I'd share.. not sure if it's ever been posted here before.

QuoteJacksonville Union Terminal office and business car storage area view as seen during 1973. At this time SCL stored their office and business cars mostly in this downtown location at Jacksonville, Florida, where there was a covered platform, electrical power and water supplies available. The office and business cars were rebuilt and modernized heavyweight passenger cars. Control tower "A" is located on the left side in the middle of the photo. In the background on the right is the tall SCL headquarters office building. This area has changed greatly as of today, however, the SCL headquarters office building now says CSX. The 4 major railroads that used this terminal facility before the SCL was created were the ACL, SAL, FEC & SR.

This, and more from the area around this era can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=34817914@N05&q=jacksonville

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

AlcoMike has a HUGE collection of Florida Railroad photos... including old steam engine wrecks...

^Including 1504 in its original location, Southern's Simpson Yard, the Beaver Street viaduct area and tons of the old Jax Terminal, including a tunnel shot.

Well, there goes my entire morning break looking through these!  ;)  GORGEOUS shots in here, but loving the 1504 and the one in the tunnel.

I was attempting to find pictures from a concert I attended on the 24th, while on Flickr. I typed in Jacksonville, and that was the second result that came up. I was like, GOTTA post this on Metro Jax!

And, holy smokes!

The tunnel under the railroad where you guys went exploring and snapped photos! I didn't notice this until just now!

It's amazing how well the brickwork has held up, even under water.

Amazes me that even with these photos, our photos, Alco Mikes Photos, blueprints, drawings, etc... FDOT still insists 'The tunnels are gone,' and Amtrak knows they were 'Old baggage tunnels.' The COJ said they had to tear them out because 'we wouldn't want somebody's Volkswagen falling through the roof of one.' Amazes me that perfectly good air is being wasted on these people.
