I recently saw on sportscenter where Gary Sheffield said that blacks were playing baseball less (and latinos more) because the "latinos will do what the man tells them to do".  HUH?  This article mentions Ribault High where the school had to cancel the baseball season...anyone else hear about this?

Baseball was ahead of the curve, the trend-setter. So what happened? Somewhere along the line, baseball fell out of favor among young African-American players. In Jacksonville, Florida, Ribault High School recently canceled its baseball season. The predominantly African-American school, a power in high school basketball, can't find nine baseball players in a student population of almost 1,000. It's not that these athletes can't play baseball, it's that they don't want to. While baseball is still immensely popular in many places and teams are setting attendance records throughout the country, basketball and football draw the fans and the spotlight among young athletes in most places.

Most kids in Jacksonville would rather be the next Laverenues Coles than the next Vince Coleman. This is a trend that started in the 80's and is continuing today.
