Gay Pride Festival this Weekend. Riverside the Gay Epicenter of Jacksonville!

No mention as to whether or not the Gay Pride Celebrations are still going to be racially segregated again this year.  Black Gay Pride and First Gay Pride have been having to sponsor seperate events for the past few years for clear enough reasons.

The First Coast Pride Festival is this weekend and there are a bunch of events going on around the City. Here are a few highlights -

First Coast Pride Festival
"Pride Begins with You"
Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27
12 PM to 6 PM Daily

Historic Riverside ParkThis great family oriented outdoor event will not only include, fun, food and games but also a children’s play area and a vendor marketplace for sponsors, merchandise and arts and crafts. New this year, the First Coast Pride Festival will feature a Pet Parade on Sunday, July 27. Of course, continuous live entertainment can be enjoyed by all from the MERGE Main Stage from 12 PM to 6 PM daily, including local, regional and national artists. Additionally, free rapid HIV testing and education will be provided on both days.

First Coast Pride Block Party
Saturday, July 26 - 6 PM to 10 PM
Historic 5 Points

As the sun begins to set, the streets close off and the music pumps up in Historic 5 Points. Spectators will enjoy frozen beverages, carnival foods and dance to pulsating sounds from some of Jacksonville’s finest DJ’s. This event also features local and regional sideline entertainment as they anxiously anticipate the arrival of the First Coast Pride Parade.

First Coast Pride Parade
Saturday, July 26 - 7 PM

Advancing our tradition, this evening parade will begin in the Historic Avondale district and weave its way nearly 3 miles into Historic Riverside and end amongst the midst of the First Coast Pride Block Party. This year’s parade features the South Florida Flamingo Freedom Marching Band and The Tampa Bay Wranglers, a county western dance team. The procession will include local and national businesses, organizations, community service and student groups as well as hundreds of "Friends of Pride".

High Energy Diversity Dance Party
Saturday, July 26 - 9:30 PM to 3:00 AM
Historic 5 Points Theatre

The Historic 5 Points Theatre will transform into a lively backdrop for the first coast’s hippest evening. High energy dancing, cocktails, and rotating DJ’s highlight this enthusiastic celebration of equality for all people. A portion of the proceeds will benefit MOCA Jacksonville’ and MERGE Jacksonville’s UNF GLBT Scholarship Fund.

I stumbled into this last year after being out of town for a bit. I had no idea what was going on,  I couldn't even tell it was a gay-pride thing, just thought it was a cool street party. I did wondered why alot of strangers were being really nice to me though....Then I noticed an abundance of rainbows but I didn't feel there was any straight-bashing going on so I continued chilling and enjoyed it for a bit.

Not that im aware of but I remember hearing about it last year.
