That dang "NEXT" button!

What's with the overuse of the "next" button? I remember hearing something about it being for mobile devices (though, it's 2013, is that still a problem?).
For example, this article here:

Has got only 2 pictures per page, then we have to click next.

I love the site and the content, I just hate having to click that next button so frequently.

We're now evaluating it as a part of trying to optimize site traffic, readership behavior and revenue optimization.  This type of article is more of a photo gallery than anything else.  We may need to create a photo gallery/video page somewhere on the site to better accommodate photo galleries such as this.  However, that's an improvement we'll have the opportunity to engage in as a result of site revenue optimization.

Ultimately, the more clicks we can generate on site, the better.  However, there is a balance and evaluating the statistical results of what's overkill is where we're at on this issue. That's partially why a photo gallery like this is being run on the weekends instead of our heavy traffic days.

Personally, I tend to separate article pages every 10-15 images or based on the storyline's theme.  A story with a decent amount of text and little imagery hovers anywhere between 1-3 pages. With an article with imagery, simply depends on the amount of imagery.  However, I try to keep those between 2 and 5 pages.  The other option I've been playing with is creating multiple 1-2 page articles per day that are less time consuming to produce.

I understand, it just seems excessive sometimes (like in that example). I think a photo gallery is an awesome idea!

For some reason I prefer to scroll up and down than click back and forth on a page.
