Engineers and accountants should never be put in administrative positions.  We can do a LOT better than Mr. Ray.

People from "safe" professions, i.e.: job for life simply by following the status quo, tend to be lacking in entrepreneurship. JAXPORT needs bold new leadership and a swift kick, I'm not sure if Lake Ray fits that order.

Lake Ray as the Jaxport CEO is PREPOSTEROUS.  Just because Ray has "helped" the port in the past DOES NOT qualify him to run it.  Recycling a politician ( Ray has no where else to go) with a high paying patronage position like the Jaxport CEO job is simply preposterous.  Lake Ray is NOT QUALIFIED to run Jaxport.  Period.  This "endorsement" is the kind of political hype that screams "corruption", and might deter truly qualified, successful port professionals from applying.  Lake Ray as a Jaxport CEO is PREPOSTEROUS.

The new Jaxport CEO position requires an educated, seasoned port and economic professional...a proven port professional with fresh ideas, vision and vigor...not some hot air politician who has never held a "real" job. Unfortunately Schleicher is not the next CEO either...nice enough guy, but he doesn't command respect at that level, a necessary trait of a CEO.  A national search, outside of the web that is Jacksonville politics, is required or Jaxport, as well as Jacksonville, will be a laughing stock.

^ umm...I'm not a fan of the idea, but perhaps you should check Lake Ray's resume before commenting....he is a civil engineer and has been working on port projects for several decades (City Council and Legislature are part-time jobs).

BobbyJo....  Interesting that you just registered today to post the same, possibly inflammatory, thing in two different threads on the same subject.  Just saying.

Please get Lake Ray out of the legislature even if it means appointing him to the JPA position.  He'll do less damage there.

Tufsu, do you have a copy of his education, qualifications and work background? I know it in general terms but  would love to see his current resume.  Before everyone gets too angry with the new poster, I read the words as those of an individual who may just be tired of the fact that this city recycles politicians over and over again moving them from one position in government to another often supporting each other with a sort of group mentality.  This just may be one of the reasons that Jacksonville does not move forward the way other cities do.  Capable new blood and ideas is not a bad thing.

JaxPort to remain second tier port. No more Hanjin deal.

This deal was impacted mostly by economics and the want of financial investments in the waterway dredging.  It was an off again on again deal.

This was and is very much needed and the sentiment should include the port and it's leadership.  It's overdue.

Is it too late for JAXPORT to ask for Gulftainer's forgiveness?

Regarding this comment from the Hajin article...

Quote““We’re not players without 47 feet,” he said. “It’s as simple as that. You can’t go to the dance without a date, and 47 feet is our date.”

Sometimes, you're better off not even going to the dance.....
