Anyone know how this route is doing? Anybody taken it? Wondering if they'll keep it...talk to a lot of travelers, not one of whom has mention it. Hope it's doing well, would love to see some more international (even if it's just the Caribbean) flights.

I've not taken this particular flight, but San Juan is definitely worth a visit. The fact that the flight is still going suggests that they are making a profit on it. It would be great to see direct flights from Jax to the Bahamas.

Im still amazed that its always cheaper to fly to San Juan than Ft. Laud. or Miami from Jacksonville.

10:41 AM Leave JAX
2:35 PM Arrive SJU
NON-STOP
Flight 1739
Duration: 2h 54m
Total trip time: 2h 54m
$117 Lowest Fare
$447 Refundable Fare

Yep still flying. I'd get more excited if they'd set up 6-8 flights daily from JFK to JAX and then various single daily flights from JAX to various Caribbean rim Cities. Cartagena is calling me!

I took it last year...was great

My wife has used it for business and avoid having to fly through ATL or MIA for a connection. She loves it.

She said the flights were always full during her trips to San Juan.

JetBlue is still trying to get approval from the FAA to have that flight continue on to Reagan in DC. But there is a gate constraint there and its unlikely to get approval.

I used to fly the AirTran flight from San Juan to Chicago Midway. Ugh! Huge delays in luggage claim as you have to wait for the dogs to sniff all the luggage on the carts before they toss them on the turnstile, sometimes can take an hour. Haven't seen that yet on the JAX flights.

About a year ago I was with a young professionals group that toured the airport and met with the CEO. He stated that the SJU flight was doing EXTREMELY well and was prompting discussions of more frequent flights and destinations in the caribbean. But i took it all with a grain of salt...his presentation to us was basically a sales pitch promoting the economic importance of the Jax Aviation Authority and he also claimed that the direct flights to Las Vegas and Denver were incredibly popular, exceeding expectations and breaking records, yada yada. We'll see..I've never been to PR but really want to take advantage of the convenient and cheap flight from Jax.

Not always. I've seen and nearly purchased one-way flights on SW to FLL for $59 and on AA to MIA for $69 taxes included on numerous occasions!! But I've always ended up driving because people would always end up coming with me which makes the roadtrip more cost-effective.

There's a thread on this site from several months back discussing a slot that opened up at DCA. Three airlines were applying for it, one of which was Jetblue proposing a JAX-DCA route once a day. THis might be the one you are talking about...don't know if there's an update but seemed like a 33% chance, haha.

Just for sake of comparison: how long did JAA keep the JAX to LAX flight before they canned it?

about 8 months I think, maybe a year.  I'll think of it again when I'm in the middle seat going that way on Monday.

Middle seat? But that's the worst seat!

BridgeTroll

I havent been to San Juan since the 80's... from what I remember... I had a really good time... ;D 8)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

no shit, but that's what happens when you book on 5 day notice.

I took it earlier this year; it was great.  San Juan is very accessible from Jax and is a great vacation destination.  You can actually make it just a nice long weekend too.  Have to visit the El Yonke!

Dog Walker

And if you get outside San Juan and drive through the countryside (highly recommended!) don't forget to try the "powdered chicken", it's delicious.
When all else fails hug the dog.
