Make it a one seat ride with the downtown stops only occurring at Rosa Parks & Kings Avenue.  That's the easiest way to do it operationally but that doesn't deal with the design issue that has the Southbank worried.

Think of how much money you just saved them, Lakelander!

Just go over the Fuller Warren instead of the Acosta and exit the interstate at Philips.  The southbank has no need of BRT. If it has to connect to the skyway bring the skyway to FEC park. Let them compliment each other not compete.

Just make it express bus and forget the "BRT" designation if the Federal dollars are forcing us to design a bad system.

3.) If and when this becomes the goal, consider our investment in Rosa Parks, Kings Avenue, JRTC and The Skyway and simply do the right thing, terminate the north route at the JRTC or Rosa Parks, and terminate the Philips route at Kings Avenue. Funnel this traffic onto our elevated system.
so you want to make a 3-seat ride out of a trip from the northside to the southside?  Most transit folks realize that anything more than a 2-seat ride is a deterrent to system use.

How did you miss my first suggestion? If it's option 1.) then why not run these buses NON-STOP between Rosa Parks and Kings Avenue? Which is exactly what Lake, Doug and you suggested.

BTW, running the buses non-stop through downtown and between Kings Avenue or JRTC or Rosa Parks, gives the bus passengers a faster ride and give the local stuff to our Skyway.

^It also saves money on implementing BRT by eliminating most of the BRT stops they have planned in downtown.

Exactly Lake. I'd give them the Broad and Jefferson upgrades, so the local Westside buses come into the JRTC, Northside into Rosa Parks, and Southside buses at Kings Avenue. Connect these dots with the Skyway. If the Lem Turner BRT is to go into the JRTC let it use either Broad or Jefferson, if not reserve those lanes for the downtown shuttle buses.

Just sayin'
Otherwise staff Kings Avenue with a full service information and pass booth which could be done by moving a couple of JTA information operators to Kings Avenue.

As a passing shot, take a page from other great cities and post large colorful maps, route information and allow the tourism guys to set up brochure racks.

I'd be cool with them having dedicated lanes on Broad & Jefferson as long as dedicated bike infrastructure was also included in the corridor.

How about an app that tells where the bus is, what route it will take, and how long it will take?

tufsu1

that is in process...first they have to have GPS tracking of all buses...which is expected to be in place later this year

They were presented a working prototype of one two years ago and said that they weren't interested due to 'homeland security concerns'.  Btw, JTA STILL does not allow access to Google Transit.  It's freaking free for crying out loud!
