Went tonight - excellent tapas menu with an eastern euro flair.  Service, food, & price was great, however, the only downside that I see thus far would be the size (8/ 2 top tables) & weekday hours.  They were maxed out at 8:30pm & the kitchen was scheduled to close at 9.  I'm sure that they'll adjust as needed but they'll need more space fast.  We prematurely asked for our check in an effort to help them turn the table over & accommodate the people queued up.

I'm writing from this place as we speak. I tried the doublecow as suggested on the jax confidential website and it lived up to the review. I believe i'm trying the angry bull next time though....The person next to me has it and i'm envious. "pan seared beef filet, served with pacheco sauce and crowned with crushed raw garlic and peppercorns"

The seating is pretty limited as said above,  only 7 tables inside that sit 2-3 people and one or two tables out on the patio. but the people seem to know what they're doing  and the food's priced reasonably.

Thanks, went went like 1 hour after the initial opening and it was already packed, so we just grabbed a few sandwiches to go, and they were great. next time we hope to spend a little more time in the restaurant and get some of the stuff from the Tapas Menu.

13 Gypsies is very good, and DIFFERENT. Its about time the area got a new restaurant that is not sushi, subs or pizza.

I have heard good things about this place, going there for dinner tonight - can't wait!

David

The lady and I just had lunch there, stephElf. Good stuff! I'm still enjoying the aftertaste of the angry bull :D The ambuiance is really chill there as well,  I think they played like 8 of my favorite songs back to back!(reminds me of the artbar days)  It's a great fit for the neighborhood, plus like two blocks away from my apt. It'll def be a regular spot for me.

I can say that the double cow was awesome and their portions are HUGE

Just came from there! That place has a ton of charm, really liked the atmosphere.  It is definitely a small cafe style set-up tho - they are going to out grow that space in no time once word gets out.

We had the stuffed squid, curry chicken and home made gnocchi tapas and just shared them all - all were good!
Also got a side house salad that really is supposed to be more of a palate cleanser like ginger with sushi. There is  essentially no dressing, but I liked it like that.

Will be back for sure!  The tapas menu is great since you can try several different things vs. one huge entree.

The prices are spot on too!

On the 13gypsies website ( www.13gypsies.com )website they explain their "small bistro" philosophy:
QuoteOPENING WEEK COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK!

IT SEEMS LIKE OPENING WEEK WAS A SUCCESS FOR US. WE OPENED JULY 3RD AT 5PM... THE PLACE WAS COMPLETELY FULL BY 5:45PM. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. MOST OF THE PATRONS WE HAVE HAD HAVE ENJOYED AND EMBRACED THE MENU, LOCATION, AND ATMOSPHERE... WE'RE SO HAPPY WITH THE RESPONSE AND PROUD TO PROVIDE THE LOCAL RIVERSIDE/AVONDALE AREA WITH A NEW PLACE TO EAT AND HANG OUT.

REVIEWS SO FAR HAVE BEEN VERY POSITIVE, WITH A COUPLE OF CONCERNS THAT CHEF WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS NOW....

[1] ··· SIZE AND NUMBER OF TABLES: 13G CURRENTLY HAS 7 TABLES, EACH WITH 2 SEATS... THAT MEANS WE CAN SEAT 14 PEOPLE (16 IF YOU COUNT THE CAFE TABLE OUTSIDE). THIS IS NO ACCIDENT. VERY SMALL EATERIES EXIST IN ALMOST EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD IN EUROPE. THEY ARE A PART OF THE CULTURE, AND SOMETHING JACKSONVILLE IS MISSING.

HAVING BEEN BORN IN SPAIN, AND SEEING THE SMALL EATERY TRADITION CONTINUE IN CITIES LIKE BOSTON AND NYC - CHEF HAS BEEN BOTHERED FOR SOME TIME THAT THE SAME TRADITION DOES NOT EXIST IN JACKSONVILLE. THE VISION OF 13G WAS TO BRING BACK THE TRUE MEANING OF BISTRO...
"A bistro is a small restaurant serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting. Bistros are defined mostly by the foods they serve. Slow-cooked foods and house made breads are typical."

IT IS VERY ODD TO SEE PLACES IN THE STATES SEATING 70+ PEOPLE AND CALLING THEMSELVES A BISTRO.

[2] ··· HOURS OF OPERATION: OUR CURRENT HOURS OF OPERATION ARE...
MONDAY    CLOSED
TUES - THURS    LUNCH 11-2
DINNER 5-9:30
FRI - SAT    LUNCH 11-2
DINNER 5-11
SUNDAY    BRUNCH 11-2

SOME HAVE COMMENTED ON THE HOURS, ESPECIALLY THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY CLOSING TIME. NOT ONLY IS THIS VERY COMMON FOR A TRUE EUROPEAN BISTRO, BUT IT IS BECOMING COMMON IN AMERICA AS WELL. IT IS ALSO POSTED THAT WE STOP SEATING 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO CLOSING TIME. OUR KITCHEN IS A TRUE SLOW KITCHEN. CHEF WORKS MOSTLY BY HIMSELF (WITH OCCASIONAL PREP HELP FROM THE DISHWASHER). BECAUSE OF THIS, WE HAVE TO ENSURE ENOUGH UNINTERRUPTED PREP TIME BETWEEN LUNCH AND DINNER AS POSSIBLE. WE THANK THE COMMUNITY AHEAD OF TIME FOR THEIR UNDERSTANDING.
I don't believe in signatures!
