Cyclist hit at Riverside and Forrest

While crossing the street from the LPS building to the BCBS building occupants on an SUV yelled to my co-worker and I that a cyclist had just been hit, down the block at Riverside and Forrest. While our other co-workers called 911 we ran to see if we could offer assistance. By the time we got there Everbank security started blocking traffic and said 911 had been called and an ambulance was on it's way.

The female victim was laying motionless for a while then eventually sat up as the sounds of the ambulance drew near. We left as the ambulance approached but I'm still a bit shaken by the event.

Please be careful out there.

Both need to be careful cyclist need to know the rules of the road. And anyone driving a car, truck, scooter, motorcycle or a motorized vehicle period! Needs to learn what to do when you come upon a CYCLIST, PEDESTRIAN OR ANOTHER VEHICLE! Remember the rules of the road like you did when you got your first license!

I don't think it's productive to automatically assume the cyclist did something wrong to get hit.  Even with the sharrows, Riverside Avenue is dangerous for cyclists.  This isn't the first (or 10th) time this has happened.

I hope the woman is ok.

I ride a lot.  Riverside Ave is sketchy, especially during rush hour.  I almost always just ride along the Riverwalk instead; it's so much safer than being out there with the cars, and only a block to the south.

Hope she's OK.

^ Me too.  Doesn't matter who is to blame. As long as shes okay.

You guys got signs on saying rescue worker?  Why in the age of everyone's got a cell phone wouldn't the SUV have called it in?

Nope, if anything our attire said business casual. I have no idea why they yelled for us, maybe they didn't have a phone, maybe we were the only pedestrians near the accident. I thought the same though "Why didn't they call?"

My co-worker and I who ran to the scene didn't have our phones on us either :(
