Exactly what 'higher office' would Brown be running for? The office he holds now pays more than U.S. Senator.

sorry, but no....even before Brown took a "generous" 20% pay cut

I'm surprised that you guys would endorse not treating criminals fairly...

QuoteI believe that all people should be treated fairly. (with the exception of criminals)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Many would be interested in the story behind your move from San Francisco to Jacksonville... 8)

Tenure-track job in 18th century British literature at UNF. When one is looking for a job in that field, one can't be too picky.

What makes Jax and SF so different though was this: young people, primarily gay, but not all of them, were flocking to SF.  The culture had to change. Young people don't flock to Jax. In fact, the ones I teach at the university, unless they have a strong reason for being here, are looking to get away as soon as they graduate because they don't think of the place as having much to offer them.

And then there are those who want to fight to make this place better so we can keep those people, because they've felt that despair too.
Have you called Councilman Warren Jones to thank him for sponsoring the human rights bill? Do it now! Super quick and easy--plus, it feels better than leaving angry messages with bad guys. Call his office at (904) 630-1395

Nice article in the Times Union today about the absence of the Mayor lately on controversial topics. Even Godbold called him out. For a Mayor who loves the spotlight and a news camera, he has been chicken little of late....
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

It was a common criticism of Mayor Alvin Brown during the recent push to expand Jacksonville's human rights ordinance, coming from both sides: By not taking a stand on the issue, he wasn't acting as a leader.

“In this case, he is the leader of the city. He can provide guidance,” said Leanne King, who opposed the ordinance as an infringement upon people's free speech and religious rights. “It certainly would have been nice as a leader for him to stand up.”

Audrey Moran, who championed adding sexual orientation to the ordinance, had similar words about Brown.

“This community needs to hear from its mayor on issues of community importance,” she said. “We need to convince him how much we need his leadership on this.”

It’s not the first time that critique has been made of Brown, either explicitly or sotto voce.

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Mayor Brown wasn't going to support the human rights issue, OBVIOUSLY.   He would have gotten too much negative flack on it from "the other side"   sort of like the crew in City Council who did not want it passed.

But one day, the tables WILL turn.  I wouldn't want to be any of them.
