Stopped into Bakery Moderne on Stockton today--had a great little brownie. They just opened two days ago--they are making fresh bread in-house too, not just pastries. Hope these guys make it. Good to have a real local bakery in the neighborhood.

I visited on the 24th, thier first day open.

The owner/chef was accomodating as I requested a gift card, didn't have any yet, and improvised. The internal/external appearance is still a work in progress, obviously, but the baking is up & running.

The owner/chef said that her speciality is sweets: pies, tarts, cakes, cookies, etc.

They also have fresh baked breads daily.

And, fyi, she is looking for an accomplished bread baker.

She said her goal was to become the neighborhod bakery.

Wish her the best!

Hello,
I'm pleased to announce a few new items added to our daily selection of pastries, breads and cakes.  We are now serving British-style (actually, more like South African-style) meat pies. Our selection currently consists of steak & onion, chicken & mushroom and spinach & cheese. As with everything else we sell, they are handmade entirely from scratch usng only fresh, high quality ingredients.

In response to customer requests, we've also added a small range of gluten-free items to the lineup and we'll expand this line if the demand warrants it.

Thanks to the wonderful folks of Riverside (and Jacksonville in general) who've given us a great welcome to the neighborhood and helped make our first month a success.

My fiancee and I visited Bakery Moderne this past Sunday and were impressed. We each had a chocolate croissant, and we split a cheese and bacon quiche and a sausage biscuit (a biscuit with sausage and cheese baked in -- not one of those Jimmy Dean style things). Also a couple cups of French press coffee. It was excellent and we'll probably make a habit out of it. Anybody who hasn't stopped by yet, I highly reccomend it!

A great example of adaptive reuse. From Laundermat to Bakery.

I went way out of my way to try this place out yesterday.

Overall my experience was above average, the French bread was EXCELLENT and I will go out of my way for it again.  Even though the bread was displayed in a case the woman taking my order gave me a glove and let me touch it. I think she thought I was a little strange but that's how I judge, a gentle squeeze.  I also got some vanilla bean creme brulee and some key lime tortes(?).  I brought all this to a dinner party last night and it was a hit among VERY honest people.

We love this place. I eat from here at least once a week. Girl working the counter is a bit odd...but who isn't. Awesome daily soup/sandwich combo...

I will be trying this place. I have heard nothing but good things about it. Apparently they are making quite the impression.

My Friends on Myra say they see a LOT of loaves of bread leaving every day.I am soooo happy that people don't want sugar.(We have too many cake and tart bakeries anyway) I and a lot of bread fans with mature tastes appreciate this.
The owner said she was going to see which way things went, and I appreciate her attention to the tastes and preferences of the Neighborhood.

One thing puzzles me though...even with a huge vent on the Myra side I can't SMELL any fresh goodness being baked?
The smell of fresh bread brings people back to good times.....True Comfort food. Oh...and it grabs you by the nostrils and makes your body walk inside...powerful Voodoo.

According to their Facebook page, Riverside's own little bakery on Stockton St. is shuttering their doors after 3 years to focus on wholesale and special orders only.

So sad to hear this--I'll miss being able to just pop in for a loaf of French bread or some almond macarons.

Hopefully, they'll continue to supply Bold Bean next door with their goodies.

Please tell me there is not a parking issue...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."
