QuoteJACKSONVILLE, FL -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is responding to a shooting outside Hemming Plaza.

The shooting happened on the western edge of the plaza across the street from the Federal Courthouse near the Skyway.

No word on the shooting victim's condition. A witness told us she saw the victim being loaded into an ambulance and he appeared to be alive.

Witnesses also told us the shooter is in custody, but there's been no official confirmation from police.

We have a crew at the scene gathering more information.

Part of Hemming Plaza is roped off with crime scene tape. The plaza is one of many stops on tonight's Art Walk. Organizers say the event is still on as planned.

What time was the shooting?  I thought I had heard gunfire earlier.  Hopefully this provides even more incentives for our incompetent local police and city government to run the bums out of Hemming Park.  You would think they could at least keep the park in front of City Hall cleaned up!   >:(

They cleaned it up when Boomtown was there, after the kid got attacked by a homeless guy.  Unfortunately, little was done to keep it in that state.

One more nail in the downtown coffin....seriously it is absolutely amazing that  the entire police presence in the plaza directly in front of city hall consists of two perenially empty cruisers. Compare that to a place like Washinton Sq park, which always seems to have both a beat cop and undercover units. Not too  mention that Hemming is constantly full of vagrants.

What downtown park isn't full of them?

I see officers in the plaza on a daily basis, at least a handful or so when i'm out around lunch. There are times when there's not one around but armed security guards instead. Regardless,  is having ten cops patrol the park really the answer here? I mean who shoots someone in one of downtown's most heavily patroled areas in broad daylight over a PSP?

As we say in the IT field, USER ERROR! The shooter probably wasn't a genius, that's all i'm saying.

They must have cleaned everything up for Artwalk... the park was full of people, vendors, music,... nice night.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Yeah by the time I had walked over to Hemming plaza even at 5pm, they were already setting up, cleaning up the area. I don't think shootings really detur anyone around here anymore, artwalk was in full force last night. I originally heard the argument was over a playstation portable from one of security guards  but I haven't been able to verify that.

There's not much news coverage on this particular one though. Just another "daily shooting" i suppose.

Yes, let's chalk up a complete moron-- someone violent and dumb enough to shoot another over a PSP-- to homeless people populating the park, that's logical and a good place to direct our thoughts and actions.  SIKE.

And, I agree, no amount of police presence is going to stop someone as dumb and violent as this person from doing what he did.

Update from the TU:

"Wednesday’s shooting in Hemming Plaza involved two 17-year-olds, one wanting his PlayStation back, Jacksonville police confirmed this morning.

Joshua Miller is in critical condition, Chief Rick Graham said. He was shot several times near City Hall about 2:45 p.m.

The shooter had been looking for him to return his PlaySation, Graham said.

Police arrested Zachary Robinson in the shooting and charged him with aggravated battery."

Eazy:  I did not know the argument was over a Play Station when I posted that.  In any case, ridding Hemming Park of bums is a worthwhile goal.
