QuoteAfter three weeks at the Water Street Parking Garage, the Make a Scene Downtown! party moved to Hemming Plaza Thursday.

The move also meant a focus on fun and games including a giant chess board, dart boards and even a pool table that were available for scene-makers to enjoy under the shade trees.

When the games and all the extras â€" frosty $1 beers, live band “Last 2 Leave” playing everything from Gloria Gaynor to Will Smith, food by Plaza III The Steakhouse, iced coffees from Shelby’s Coffee Shoppe at the Main Library plus several hundred people looking for some after-work fun â€" were combined, it made perfect sense.

Make a Scene Downtown! will return to Hemming Plaza next Thursday from 5-8 p.m.

It's about time; they should have had it at Hemming Plaza at the very beginning; I knew the Water Street Garage location would be unsuccessful as did others in this forum.  Just goes to show you how our City Leaders have very short foresight on everything that is done for the City; instead of superb planning and decision making, they always "shoot off the hip" in making plans and decisions which usually either ends up in disaster or a change of plans.

The parking garage idea wasn't that bad really because it had PARKING! If they would've spruced up the rooftop a little bit more it probably would've helped the ambiance.

I doubt as many people will come from outside the core for a party in homeless plaza but we'll see.

I take it they're not starting this until next Thursday? I went by Hemming plaza this past Thursday at about 6pm and it was just the usuals there, no sign of a party.

I think there was a homeless marshmallow roast at 3am.

Make Scene planning to make a move to the Omni Hotel pool...

Quote• Though nothing has been officially announced, sources say that following the July 3 Make a Scene Downtown! party at the Jacksonville Landing, the venue will have a wetter location for two of the dates in July. Namely, the Omni’s renovated pool for the July 10 and July 31 parties, with another area hotel filling the void for the July 17 and July 24 parties.

Good.

I went to the Hemming plaza event last week and I couldn't make it past the first 20 minutes, it's hard to get loose when you see those who've slipped through the cracks of humanity all around you. At least with the rooftop parties I felt like I was hanging with other downtown professionals....

I know I know, more should be done to help, but i'm not in that mindset on a Thursday afternoon after a 10 hour workday, I just want to relax and forget about life and the city's problems for a few hours, not have them starring me in the face and asking for a dollar so they can get on the bus to meet their uncle who has a job waiting for them in Savannah :D

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."
