No surprise.  FEC's recent proposal to operate their own passenger rail service still has not been covered by local media outside of this site.

I saw it in the T-U the other day

QuoteDon't over regulate or they'll build your dreams in Atlanta.

Ock is that your comment or a quote from Mayor Garcia?

Everything I wrote was from the various speakers unless I posted with something like 'OCK NOTE' or 'NOTE TO SELF'.
So the answer is, it was Mayor Garcia's quote.

The Mayor of Debary, Dr. Delaney - Treasure Coast Planning Council, FECI, Amtrak, FDOT Rail, Daytona Beach, St. Augustine and Melbourne's activists are all wanting to come up here and put on a program with mayor Brown and various interested Council Members present in the grand waiting room of Jacksonville Terminal. It's up to us to put this together.

Mayor Garcia, holy crap, he is an amazing... spellbinding, fascinating, speaker and his shoot from the hip delivery is almost evangelical. I've heard a lot of people speak in all of my years but seldom has anyone nailed the subjects with a machine gun like rapid fire wit, WE NEED HIM!

Uncle Ock's fast typing is fueled by Southern Bourbon. :D :D :D

(Just an inside joke).

But seriously, if this comes up like this again, Uncle Ockie, I would love to go with you, and I can handle the Twitter, Facebook, and other social media aspects while you tackle the main topics at those meetings!

If we can put this together, this opens a new door to the possibly of High Speed Rail in Florida, THE RIGHT (Correct, Smart, Effective) WAY.

Bring it on Jacksonvillians (no pun intended)!

Jacksonville is still on the plan of SEHSR and the FEC would connect perfectly.

Then the riderships would go up and eventually there will be plans to evolve FEC or a track next to it or somewhat to have HSR.

Exactly lil' nephew!

High speed rails between Jax and Boston, and 79-120 mph rails within Florida would serve us very well indeed. A real plus is, at 110-120 freight and passenger can operate on the same tracks without the heavy freight trains beating the hell out of the alignment... Meaning, while it is ALWAYS important, the alignment of the track accurate to fractions, is important for a smooth ride, something that becomes more pronounced with higher speeds.

Ride the monorail at Disney World for example. On the cross country stretches where it hits 50-55 mph, it bucks like a wild horse, but you won't notice that as much at the lower speeds.

You wouldn't want freight to share the track with true high speed trains, i.e.:200+ mph, but since we (Florida) is a point of origin or a destination, with many smaller spots in-between.
