The Times-Union

Citigroup Inc. today notified the state it will lay off 145 employees from its Jacksonville offices.
The Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation notice states the layoffs will be completed by the end of August.
The international company offers financial services for individuals and corporations.
Citibank’s Jacksonville offices employ more than 4,300 employees, according to its Web site.
In other notices, Jacksonville-based Vurv Technology Inc. earlier this month told the state it would let 79 employees go by July 1.

Seems the layoffs are beginning to mount in our area.  I hope this trend doesn't continue for too much longer.

Citi in particular worries me a lot.  They employ over 4,000 people in Jacksonville and are still in the thick of the sub-prime crisis. They have a long way to go before they are out of the woods and I don't think its unreasonable to believe that they will do whatever they can to slim down or even sell of entire units (such as their credit card businesses ie. like the one in Jacksonville.)

More than 145 had their positions eliminated or reassigned to our locations. Some chose to work at the other locations. Quite a few now have other positions within the company. The majority of the 145 are those who had lenghty tenures with the company and were nearing retirement. They are also receiving a severance package.
