What is a cash mob?  Cash mobs are like flash mobs, but instead of dancing around like an idiot you actually help out a local business and meet cool people.  Cash mobs are all about buying local and supporting your local economy.

Noone

Good stuff! Spend and enjoy local.

Please join me and encourage your friends to come to Jacksonville’s first Cash Mob Saturday April 7th.   Meetup at Burrito Gallery at 1pm to find out what location we'll be mobbing.  Expect to spend a minimum of $10.  Afterwards beginning at 2:30pm we'll meet back at Burrito Gallery for drinks and socializing.  Support two local businesses at once!!!
What is a cash mob?  Well, it’s good kind of mob for your city.  More specifically a cash mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business and all buy items from that business. The purpose of these mobs is to support both the local businesses and the overall community.  Think of the Cash Mob as a “shop local” flash mob created to spur local economic stimulus!  The ten dollars demonstrates your personal commitment and effort to support a local independent retailer while having fun doing it as a part of a larger group.
The first Cash Mobs sprung up in Buffalo and Cleveland around the same time last fall.  The organizers intent was to provide a financial and morale boost to a local business owner while giving the Mobbers the opportunity to meet new people during the events.  Now it’s Jacksonville’s turn to show our dedication to our local economy on April 7th.
There are three rules for a cash mob:
1.   Spend $10-$20 at a local store
2.   Meet three new people
3.   HAVE FUN!!!
When we buy local, from local businesspeople, wealth is both created and retained in the community.  When we shop local, it is as much about making an investment in our communities and economies as it is about getting things we normally would have bought elsewhere.
Here are some quotes from merchants who participated in recent Cash Mobs
“We did the equivalent of a Christmas shopping day in 45 minutes.”
- John Reburn, in Roanoke, Virginia
“We saw an over 600% increase in transactions from the previous weekend, over doubling of the recommended purchase of $10 in goods, and over 135 visitors.”
- Peggy Winfield, in Mt Clements, MI

Think of what an impact we can all have on our community by simply choosing to shop local.
Please spread the word and join us Saturday April 7th 1pm at Burrito Gallery located at 21 East Adams Street in downtown Jacksonville, FL.  As always, on street metered parking is FREE on the weekends!

Alright, here's the deal.  Cash mob is going to support TWO DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES.  Support your local businesses, support downtown and meet cool people.

Who's in?!?!

fsujax

sounds good. Hopefully someonewill alert one of our media stations about this. They did a story a few weeks ago covering the ones in other cities, but said none has taken place in Jacksonville.

Should be hearing more about this in the media starting next week.

In the meantime, send this to your friends and encourage them to come.  Let's make it happen!

Truckies are over, now on to Cash Mob.

Jax Cash Mob will invade a local business with customers for an hour.  You will have the opportunity to buy cool stuff(the secret location is a really cool place), support local business downtown, have fun in the urban core and meet cool people.

Meet at Burrito Gallery at 1pm.  The cash mob location will be unveiled.  We'll spend $10-20 at the location, and after an hour or so come back to Burrito Gallery for socializing and post-mob drinks.

This trend is sweeping the nation as more and more people realize the value of supporting local businesses.

Three days out until cash mob takes over two downtown businesses.  Got at least $10 to spend to support downtown?  Then come out to Burrito Gallery at 1pm Saturday.  We'll invade a local business and then meet back at BG for post-mob socializing and drinks.  Win-win for downtown Jax.

More letters of support from cash mob recipients elsewhere:

“Our single best day ever! So many thanks Secret Tampa Cash Mob, and of course, our lovely Mob Boss!”
-Luann Schapiro
Citrus Park, FL

Why are Cash Mobs so good?  Well, first cash mob founder Chris Smith of Buffalo explains:

"What you get with a Groupon or a Living Social deal is a one-time injection. And it's not necessarily a profitable injection," Smith says. "You're having to cut your prices so significantly. I think with this, because we ask people to come and spend a little time in the store, we encourage the entrepreneur to spend some time with each of the shoppers and introduce themselves, talk about the products they have. It builds a relationship that you don't get with a coupon."

Quotegroup of Jacksonville small business supporters are organizing what they believes is Jacksonville’s first cash mob April 7 to encourage shoppers to support local businesses.

A cash mob is a group of people who assemble at a local business and buy items from that business. The trend was started by an attorney in Cleveland in November, according to a website devoted to the trend. They’ve since spread to other communities all over the nation, including seven in Florida.

The first Jacksonville cash mob, organized by Mike Field, Caron Streibich and Stacey Steiner, will start at local restaurant the Burrito Gallery at 21 E. Adams St. at 1 p.m. There the group will find out what local business they’ll mob. Each cash mob participant is being asked to spend a minimum of $10. At 2:30 p.m. the group will meet back at the Burrito Gallery.

The group has set up both a Twitter account at @jaxcashmob and a Facebook account.
