Central Parking staffers clog neighboring streets
Residents complain, say workers have blocked driveways

QuoteIt may be hard to fathom, but Central Parking has run short of employee parking spots at its headquarters, and neighbors in nearby Hillsboro Village say workers are blocking driveways and causing unnecessary congestion.

Not so long ago, Central Parking owned more paid public parking spaces than anyone else in the entire world.

Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Since last spring, residents living along West Linden Avenue say they have been boxed in by employees of one particular nearby business, which has been unable to provide enough parking spots for its workers. That business? Central Parking, a company that boasts more than 2,500 parking facilities and 1.2 million parking spots nationally.

“Instead of Central Parking employees parking on our street, what we will be doing is, the people in the neighborhood will be parking on the street and finding alternative methods to get to work,” said Mary Skinner, a resident there and board member of the Hillsboro West End Neighborhood Association. “We want to make a statement.”

“Unfortunately, solutions proposed by the neighbors, such as encouraging employees to ride bikes to work or take shuttle buses, would either greatly inconvenience company employees or would create safety issues given the fact the corporate office is right off busy 21st Avenue,” the company said.

Having lived near Hillsboro Village in Nashville, I can say that the area is very short on parking. Anyone who thinks that the Kickbacks expansion will cause parking problems in Riverside should visit Hillsboro Village. That is an awesome strategy by the residents, though.
