Traffic Lights Downtown

What would it take to get the lights re-timed downtown?  It was mentioned in this article a year ago http://www.metrojacksonville.com/article/2011-may-twenty-affordable-fixes-for-downtown.

They've been off for a while, but Main street is really bad right now.  From State to the main street bridge, every other light is timed, so you get a green as soon as the next one turns red.
So I said to him: Arthur, Artie come on, why does the salesman have to die? Change the title; The life of a salesman. That's what people want to see.

Typically Main Street is synchronized on weekdays and not on weekends. Is that not true anymore?

Ha!  I never knew that, and I've lived downtown for 2 years now.

On weekends you can sit at a red light for the full length without seeing another car... at all.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Correct Lunican....and many would argue not having the lights synced is a good thing as it slows traffic down

Many MJers (not me) think that State & Union Streets are a detriment to DT with their so called 'highway like' paces, drawing people away from the core; Maybe even more longer and badly timed lights on Main St, State St etc. in the core could be a positive, eventually drawing people into the Landing, Hemming Plaza etc. Voila! Urban revitalization!!!

State & Union are an asset.  The amount of traffic they carry is a huge plus for retail.  They should be viewed and marketed in that manner.  Do that, and they'll grow to become a centralized retail zone for downtown and several surrounding neighborhoods.

I think the main drags are timed pretty well.  It's on the less travelled roads (especially on the weekends) that need some sort of sensors installed because you get stuck on those red cycles, that can be pretty frustrating.

synchronizing is suspended on Main St during the evening and weekends. Done by design, as TUFSU1 said to slow traffic.
