Who's hiring? Information technology in Jacksonville (An Article from the TU)

Not techno driven??  The world's largest internet hosting company is headquartered here, Web.com.  So is the country's largest mortgage servicing company, LPS.  I think we are nearly the largest "back office" for banks and credit card companies like Citibank as well.  The country's largest "on line" bank, Everbank, is here and it is now the largest bank in Florida by assets.  Their back office is in Islandia, NY, but there are a lot of IT people here with them.

Even AOL, poor thing, was based here at one time, out at the Imeson Industrial Park.

Web.com is not the world's largest webhosting company either, they do not even crack the top 15:

Number 3 on that list - networksolutions.com  - Web.com owns them. 

None of our stuff is on the cutting edge.  I think they're here because we're the cheapest place to go before heading off to India or there is some government mandate to have this stuff made in the US. 

Why put simple back end stuff in expensive NYC when there's low wage Jacksonville, FL who's thinks a $50k+ salary is for rich people?

For a perfect example of the above statement, look no further than Convergys. Ask yourself why they keep call center jobs in Jacksonville.

I'm looking at all the fancy title jobs located in the other cities.  I wish some of those jobs were here.

Bank of America to lay off 62 in Jacksonville. Bank of America will lay off 62 employees in the Jacksonville, the company has announced. The layoffs will come in the Client Research and Resolution Services operation, which is being shut down in Jacksonville. That work will be moved to BOA offices in other cities elsewhere in the country.
The layoffs will be effect in late June, a spokeswoman said.

Maybe these folks can get a job with Everbank, instead.
