This thesis cuts off at 1920.  Wasn't there a big wave of Syrians who came here after 1920?

Yes, a wave of Syrians (mostly actually from what is now Lebanon) and Palestinians from Ramallah moved to Jacksonville after that that point. Great find Lake, I hope we can find a profile for post-1920.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Fantastic find, Lake!  Just blew a good part of my morning reading the whole thing.  Amazing how far back some of our familiar Jacksonville names go.

Someone told me that there are now more Christians from Ramallah here in Jacksonville than are left in the town of Ramallah.
