In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Apparently he doesnt like it when others use his work...

QuoteFairey has come under criticism for appropriating others' artwork into his own while failing to provide attribution for the work used.[37][38] Fairey has threatened to sue artists for the same technique. Austin, Texas graphic designer Baxter Orr did his own take on Fairey's work in a piece called Protect, with the iconic Obey Giant face covered by a SARS respiratory mask.[39] He started selling prints through his website marketed as his own work. On April 23, 2008 Orr received a signed cease-and-desist order from Fairey's attorneys, telling him to pull Protect from sale because they alleged it violated Fairey's trademark. Fairey threatened to sue, calling the designer a "parasite".[40]

Apparently he has "borrowed" fairly often...

The funny thing is that on many if not all that you presented, its said he licensed the rights to the art he appropriated. But NOT on HOPE. After this, i wonder about that.
Jsut awful. no one knows how the case will proceed, though. Many believe he will prevail.
StevenDare's last post is strong evidence of that. But, its been said that Warhol also obtained rights for such use. Roy Lietchenstein early work pushed the line on substantial similarity, but the comic book company seemed to have chosen not to enforce their copyright.
Steven, i believe it was part of his strategy to actually sue AP as they were constantly pushing him on enforcement of their copyright. I know that he sued under the pretext he used "fair use" for HOPE.

Seems interesting that when someone "borrowed" his works he sued.  Seems kind of... of... help me out here.  Whats the word I am looking for...?

Uh oh! I hope none of Jacksonville's street art is based on unlicensed or uncredited photographs. That would be really really really bad.

Would that word be "hypocritical"?

For the record: Art is a hoax.

Thought about this and am I ever ticked off at Fairy-yeah he muddied the water on this lawsuit for no good reason. way to tank the legitimate stance by being a jerk and lying especially when his case would win with either photo. He is ruining it for everyone now.

Dare, "why is that"?
Oh no good reason, ahem:

Speaking of Obey,
I am lucky enough to get first dibs on Mike Giant prints through a friend of mine in Frisco... I have a lot of first run stuff from him, including one of my most prized possesions(at least currently), a very low numbered Marilyn Monroe print.  Someone just offered me a good deal of money for it considering how much I paid for it.

While on the subject of art, if anyone has any original Lee Adams paintings... please let me know.

I was just in the shower,(tmi?) wondering about Lee, and I thought of the Hope print he owns. I wondered if Shepard had any second thoughts about President Obama. Apparently he has questions, at minimum.

By the way, the sticker exhibit was awesome. I had a handful of "Andre" stickers back in the day. I wonder if they would have any value now.
