The NBA was awesome until 1993 or so, but aside from the Bulls post-MJ comeback, the stretch from 1995 until the early 2000's was quite awful at times. Franchise players like Big Country Reeves, Alan Houston, Glen Davis, Larry Johnson, ugh.

Do you mean Glen Rice? What was wrong with Glen Rice? The man had one of the best three point shots of all time.

Actually Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson was the guy that I meant. Man, that was a rough stretch. If nothing else, the league has an absolute ton of must-watch superstars these days. Guys like Blake Griffin, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Derrick Rose, Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, Derron Williams, Paul Pierce, and even Zach Randolph have kind of become appointment viewing. I can turn on NBA season pass and be afraid to change the channel lest I miss something. There are a lot more guys right below that level too. Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo, Kevin Garnett, Steve Nash, Tony Parker, etc.

Back in those days though, I just remember these awful editions of NBA Inside Stuff where Ahmed Rashad would be trying to convince everyone that guys like Brian Reeves, Glenn Robinson, Larry Johnson (Grandma-ma' - shudder), Damon "Mighty Mouse" Stoudamire, Rick Smits, Dee Brown, Nick Van Exel, Penny Hardaway (sorry, I'll take Tim Hardaway's career over Penny's any day of the week), and Mitch Richmond were superstars (see Dream Team 1 vs. Dream 2 (and especially Dream Team 3) for proof of how the mighty fell).

The league has had more popular superstars in the past, but I think overall, the NBA brand and overall league has never been healthier than it was coming out of last year's Finals. So many stories were already built for the next season too. Would the Heat regroup? Would Dallas retain? Would the Celitics or Spurs be able to make one final stand. How would the Bulls develop. What would Dwight Howard do. How would the Lakers coexist after their collapse last year? How would Blake Griffin look in season 2? Would the Thunder and Grizzlies be able to build off their playoff runs and push things to the next level? Would the Blazers be healthy enough to make a run?

I love the NBA so much, and at the risk of being redundant, it is just infuriating beyond words to be without it in November. First world problems, I know, but come on.
