Love these updates. What's going on between Union & State near the Ritz in LaVilla?

I won't be shocked to the Einstein's flop. Look at the picture and you'll know why.

I have enrolled my child in the Art Camp at JMOMA/JMOCA for the past 2 years.  Homeless beg, you see the most disgusting things caught in the grates!  The Market on Fridays is the only bright spot I've seen and that ends well before dark!

Remember that song? My Own Worst Enemy? It's seems to me I am my own worst enemy! That is the city of Jacksonville when it comes to downtown development. They are clueless. They bend the rules. The break the law. They are complete fools. It has been going on for decades. I don't see much hope on the horizon either. Just failed projects, failed business and empty lots.

The city has shown no interest in creating any kind of true urban atmosphere. Look at the Adam's Mark, the Baseball Grounds, the Times-Union Center. They are nice facilities but there is no urbanism what so ever. Imagine if the baseball grounds were actually in downtown? Or if the Adams Mark was actually built in an urban fashion? It is disgusting how clueless they are. Embarassing too.

same old same old

now those idiots are going to do their best to close down hemming park at night.

clueless morons

Jeez, such negative comments posted.  Lighten up!  Progress has been made.  I don't think anyone can seriously say that downtown is less inviting now than it was 6 or 7 years ago.  MetroJacksonville can be a positive influence on City Establishmen to ensure that downtown continues to improve.

oh never mind.  I can't spell today.

We already know our wonderful City Councilmen are corrupt.  They don't respond to serious issues and just show up for photo ops and free concert tickets.  If there is any doubt, look at the uncontrolled growth we have, and the answer to failing sewer systems is to unfairly tax new ones!  We could be looking at expanding services to the areas, that "oh by the way" have beeen approved for development.  Do any of these people actually have qualifications (other than money) for their positions?

J

Point taken.  I just think that name-calling and complaining about things that can't be changed are fruitless exercises.  Some of the ideas (BRT, Big Idea) coming out of city hall are really bad and I don't want to make excuses for them.  But I believe the mayor and council want downtown and the rest of jax to thrive just like we all do.  This forum does a great job of holding them accountable and for offering constructive solutions.  I really hope they read this stuff and take it seriously.

i think einstein's will do well.  yeah, it isn't obvious that it is open, but they will be getting a sign, and their location by the courthouse will be great.  thousands of people are in the courthouse each day, and more in the city hall annex, which is literally 15 feet from the bagel place.  since it will be the only place downtown to get a bagel, it should be pretty busy.
