I agree completely with them both.  Refreshing read in the Opinion section today.

BICYCLES

Share the road

With the rising gas prices, without the rising pay to match, many people are beginning to use bikes for transportation.

It is healthy physical exercise and good for the body.

However, many people driving automobiles and trucks do not have respect for bikes on the road. And, by the same token, many bike riders do not show courtesy for vehicles. This will mean more accidents and injuries.

I have seen both groups do illegal and discourteous acts. How about we learn to share the road? Car drivers be careful and give the bikers their room; 3 feet is required by law.

Bikers, in turn, should give car drivers the respect and understanding that there is not always enough room on roadways, so move over a little to allow cars to pass.

Remember to follow the laws of the road. With a little courtesy and respect, we can all use the roads safely.

RON LITTLEPAGE

Columnist is tax proponent

This is in response to Ron Littlepage's May 29 column titled "A dozen protesters hardly represent a movement."

I find it quite interesting that Littlepage has not met a tax he does not like.

He was quite critical of the Taxpayers Protection Amendment, which would protect taxpayers from mindless tax increases on programs that were not worthy, giving Duval County residents the ability to vote on whether or not they want to bear the cost for new programs.

I suppose, in his view, it would be terrible to actually get a public consensus on matters of taxes.

Here we are again, and Littlepage is critical of those opposed to the millage rate for the Jacksonville Journey recommendations.

Is it just me or does anyone else see a common thread to his opinions? Tax more, spend more and no accountability. That sounds about right to me.
