The renovation and repainting project on the Mathews Bridge will be ramping up this weekend, meaning drivers in both directions will need to detour.
According to Mike Goldman with the Department of Transportation, the bridge is scheduled to fully close at 7 p.m. today and remain closed until 6 a.m. Sunday

Thanks for the reminder. I wasn't thinking straight and took the Arlington Expressway after shopping at Regency last weekend and the detour was a nightmare, never again!

I appreciate the heads up also. It's hard to keep track of which direction is closed when. Frustrating to look over from the Hart and see the traffic on the Matthews. Doh!

The bridge has some personality and I like the contrast in our bridges, glad they're all different. The Fuller Warren and the Acosta are kind of boring but going over the older bridges you can appreciate the labor that went into them. With the grating gone and a new coat of color she'll shine!

Then they'd have to destroy it. Oh, America. :P
It'd be great, if it were abandoned. Make it even creepier than it is now.
The tSMR has the Avondale Line with the A B & C, leading to the Acosta station (last stop from YMCA station). The Acosta Station begins the Metro line with the D E & F. Transfers available at the Acosta station.
"Next stop... Park Street - Boone Park."

When the bridge is closed the traffic on the detour route is horrible.

I actually like the old bridges.  They have character and are reminders of a time when everything didn't have to be cookie cutter.  I'd like to see the Mathews preserved if it doesn't fall into the river first.
