I early voted today the Fl Senate District 1 Special Election Primary and was surprised I didn't see anything on Metro Jacksonville about this election.  Given that there are no Republicans in this race, the winner of the September 20 primary likely goes on to crush a little known write in candidate in the October 18 general election.

Here are the candidates in the primary:

Ramon Day, former chief of staff for Congressman Charles Bennett

Audrey Gibson,  former 4-term member of the Florida House and Democratic Floor Leader

Terry Fields, former 4-term member of the Florida House and Jacksonville City Councilman;

Leandrew Mills, a political new comer

If anyone would like to share their thoughts on this election, this might be a good place to do it!

I contacted all of those candidates, to do a special article about the race for metrojacksonville.com, and the only one who contacted me back was a candidate who dropped out of the race.
The race is not always to the swift,
Nor the battle to the strong,
Nor satisfaction to the wise,
Nor riches to the smart,
Nor grace to the learned.
Sooner or later bad luck hits us all.

Three of the four candidates did a segment on First Coast Connect

If anyone wants to know, I voted for Audrey Gibson.

I have had interactions with 3 of the 4 candidates over the last 9 years and felt she would best represent Senate District 1 and its interests.   I have always appreciated Audrey Gibson as a candidate because she has always made an effort to be inclusive of the LGBT community.   Even before her first election in 2002, she reached out to the LGBT community at a time when many other candidates wouldn't even return our calls or complete our questionnaires.  After getting elected, she maintained the relationships formed then and built them over time.  I have seen her at many events over time and feel that she is very candid in her approach to addressing issues.  In a State government that is dominated by Republicans, I think we need a Democrat in Tallahassee who can challenge their extreme agenda while still being able to advance some traditionally Democratic ideas.
