Preserve or concrete boat ramps and parking lots? This is the Question!  I really don't mind a couple of ramps and parking area, but how much preserve + will that grant buy us? Something sorely lacking in the area are decent canoe landings, a small beach area and perhaps some tie-off piles.

I agree, "What About Hogans Creek" just as I'd agree on the upper reaches of the Ortega River/Mc Girts Creek and Trout. For that matter, what would it take to restore Moncrief Springs?

It's near the Kennel Club, if I recall in the 1980's there was a church nearby or on the property. It was once a recreation area far out in the country in the pre-War of Yankee Aggression times. After the city bloomed post war, it was slowly developed and was at or near the end of the Moncrief streetcar line. It became a "Negro Picnic Grounds" as some of the old maps have it. Sometime around the death of the streetcars and the war for civil rights it was just lost to history... I've always felt it was right at the head of Moncrief or Hogans Creek, WEST of I-95. At one time there was a "springhouse" there, it would be cool if anything survives

Anyone want to go on a treasure hunt? I'm headed into town tomorrow afternoon!

Lake map clues say somewhere in the woods? (good news) around 46th and Spring Grove Ave or maybe 26th and Spring Grove Street. Both locations about a mile apart, and both still wooded, at the head of branches of the creek. I was there a 100 years ago, but damned if I can remember how I got there, I'm sure just asking my way along.

Press the COJ. There is funding available through FIND for urban core waterways that connect to the St. John's.
