Want to help your community?  Tired of waiting for someone else to fix what's broken?  Then this is your type of event.

No money to donate, no skills required and no degree in urban planning is a pre-requisite.  This event is urban revitilization in it's purest form.

We'll be starting at 9AM Saturday August 20th.  All you need to do is show up with a positive attitude.  Skills required: ability to pick up trash.  That's it!  You just show up, I'll provide gloves and trash bags.  Keep Jacksonville Beautiful will haul off the waste.

Waders or kayaks helpful, but not required.

Who's in to make it happen?

Lucasjj

I will be there. Is this going to be the area around Beaver Street, or do you have somewhere else planned.?

That sounds great. I'll give a tentative "yes" because I cannot shake the feeling that there's something else I'm committed to that day. I'll put this on my Google calendar! :)

Yes, Noone's Launch Park behind the Beaver Street Fire Station and old FDLE buidling.  HOPEFULLY enough people will show up where we can break into two groups and attack multiple areas the creek basin.

Thank you VERY much in advance to anyone that is willing to donate their time.  Myself and the community at large appreciates your efforts

Great response so far!  Again thank you all for your interest.  Tell your friends and let's get out there and make it happen.

Field, I'm in. Thanks for posting.
Remember all the garbage that was there when we went kayaking a few weeks back? Its all gone. Everyone is Making It Happen. Low tide at 9. Great opportunity to visually clean that stretch of Hogans. I'm getting some new waders. A 3 prong rake is a good tool for these conditions. Spoke with councilman Gaffney and he said that he is definately going to do something as it relates to access and economic opportunity. I've contacted his office and I'll do it again.

City council meeting tonight and Waterways Wend Aug.10 at 9:30. Somebody else make a call to Gaffney and ask him when he will Make It Happen.  I was left with the impression that it would be soon. How about someone else asking and posting his current position.

I'll bring a couple of kayaks. Has anyone else submitted their guess to the yet unidentified abandoned welding project behind the Jacksonville Historical Society? Or is it a railroad yard light pole? Advertising pole for the casket company? Or a street car trolley pole? I'm going with the streetcar trolley pole.

Really?  Who did that, Maxwell House employees?

What did he say he was going to do?  Give me a call.

Somebody else give our elected legislative representatives a call and report back on this forum.  Especially Redman and Gaffney. Anybody going to Waterways tomorrow?

Got with Vivian Harrell last week and also spoke with Jerry Spinks and have identified future pick up cleaning locations around the Jacksonville Historical Society and the Maxwell House Plant area.

There will be another city wide cleanup Sept.17 and Hogans Creek will be a destination for serious participants. More details will be announced. Vivian mentioned that a group from the military will be there and have asked to participate in a serious and not a fluff location. I love how Vivian rates and catagorizes location sites and this will not be posted for kids.

Hi, can someone post an address? I used various items in the posts as key words to try to find the location but was not successful. Thanks so much.

Just got back from Waterways and saw Vivian Harrell and she is excited about all the clean up efforts. Looking forward to the 20th.

Been getting a few PMs and emails about the location.  It's right behind the fire station, behind the downtown Winn Dixie.

If you have a kayak, great b/c there are quite a few spots that are hard to access by foot that need attention.  If you don't, that's good too b/c there are quite a few areas easily accessible by foot that need quite a bit of attention.

Here is a Google Map view of where to meet:
